Wooters Leads Attack With Five Points in 12-11 OT Loss at San Diego State

SAN DIEGO – Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) recorded four goals and a total of five points to match her personal best in both statistics, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was edged 12-11 in overtime by San Diego State University at Aztec Lacrosse Field on Wednesday.
Devon Croke (Norwell, Mass.) finished with three goals and an assist and Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) also tallied multiple points with two goals. Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) was credited with 10 saves and two ground balls.
SDSU was led offensively by Kayla Deitz (3g, 1a), Taylor Sullivan (2g) and Harlowe Steele (2g), whose goal 1:09 into OT capped the Aztecs' comeback.
Katie Merritt, who entered the game with SDSU trailing 6-5 at 6:17 of the first half, stopped 8 of 13 shots on goal in 37:26 to earn the win. Starting goalie Katrina Reeves exited with one save and six goals against.
There were seven ties and five lead changes in the game, and neither team led by more than two goals.
UNH moves to 0-8 and SDSU, which trailed 11-9 with 13:30 left in regulation, won its fifth consecutive game to improve to 5-2.

GAME RECAP
- UNH's Lizzie Suschana (Somers, Conn.) won a prolonged battle for the opening draw control in the sudden-death, six-minute extra session but the 'Cats committed a turnover moments later.
- SDSU capitalized as Steele scored on the initial shot of OT to end the game.
- Croke opened the game scoring at 28:27 of the first half, but the home team responded with goals 27 seconds apart – at 27:33 and 27:06 – to quickly turn a one-goal deficit into a 2-1 lead.
- Wooters forged a 2-2 tie with a free-position goal at 19:11, but once again SDSU had a quick reply 77 seconds later to regain the lead, 3-2.
- New Hampshire scored three consecutive goals in less than three minutes to go back in front, 5-3, at 14:31. Wooters netted unassisted goals around a free-position tally by Marissa Gurello (Manorville, N.Y.).
- The teams exchanged goals to advance the score to 6-4 before the Aztecs went on a 3-0 run with tallies at 6:17, 5:34 and 3:27.
- Croke ripped a shot into the upper-right corner of the cage with 6.9 seconds on the clock to send the teams into halftime tied at 7.
- Ijeoma Ikpe and Natalie Peel potted goals 61 seconds apart – at 24:13 and 23:12, respectively – to give SDSU its largest lead of the game, 9-7.
- Wooters' fourth goal of the game lifted UNH within 9-8 at 21:35 and ignited a run of four consecutive goals.
- Schafer finished Croke's feed from the top of the 8-meter to tie the score, 9-9, at 17:38 and then Croke scored her third goal of the game to give UNH its third lead of the game, 10-9, 48 seconds later.
- Schafer scored again, this time on a pass from Wooters, as the Wildcats built a two-goal advantage for the third time – 11-9 at 13:46.
- The Aztezs closed within one goal at 12:03 and leveled the score at 11 with 5:23 remaining in regulation.
- Both teams had multiple possessions the rest of the way but both recorded just one shot on goal. Clancy denied Vickie Porter on a free-position shot at 3:25 and, at the other end of the field, Croke was turned aside by Merritt at 2:17.
'CAT NIPS
- Wooters matched her career high of four goals with the first three scored in the opening 15 minutes, 29 seconds of the game. The five points also equaled her personal best.
- Wooters has scored a goal in 7 of 8 games and has five multiple-point efforts this season.
- Croke matched her personal best of four points with the three goals and an assist.
- Schafer recorded her seventh multiple-goal game of the season. She leads the team with 18 points, all on goals.
- Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season.
- UNH, which also played at fourth-ranked Southern Cal on Monday, is now 0-5 on the road.
- The Wildcats are 0-2 in overtime this season. They were defeated 11-10 at Holy Cross on March 1. UNH was 1-0 in OT in both the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
