DURHAM, N.H. – Former UNH women's soccer standout Caroline Murray (New Canaan, Conn.) has signed a professional contract with Fimleikafelag Hafnarfjardar (FH) of the Icelandic Women's Professional League, a highly regarded women's professional league across the world.
Murray signed with Sudet, who is based in Kouvola, Finland a team in the Ykkonen Women's League, following graduation from UNH. At Sudet, Murray started all 22 games and finished the season with 12 goals and six assists. She was named Game MVP 11 times last season and was named Football Association of South-Eastern Finnish District Female Player of the Year.
"I am very honored and excited to be joining FH for the 2017 season," said Murray. "It's a great opportunity at a very high level so I'm looking forward to the challenge. It has meant a lot to me to have the continued support from Coach Welham and everyone at UNH."
In just two seasons with UNH, Murray put a stamp on her career securing America East Midfielder of the Year after leading the team with eight assists her senior season, a mark which sits second in the single-season record book for the program. She also earned America East All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team honors her final year. The recognition didn't end there. Murray was selected to play in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl and was named National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Northeast Region Third Team. Murray finished the 2015 season ranked 40th in the nation in assists and tied for 46th in the country for assists per game (0.4 apg).
Other notable awards Murray compiled in 2015 were NEWISA Division I All-New England First Team honors and NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Third Team, as she was the only America East member to be recognized in the latter.
"These are exciting times for Caroline as she begins another chapter in her professional career," said head coach Steve Welham. "Caroline is joining what is arguably one of the top-5 women's professional leagues in the world and we have no doubt that she will continue to excel. Caroline has become a student of the game and has never stopped learning and working to improve. Her desire, grit and determination to succeed combined with her talent will continue to propel her forward in her professional career. I can speak for all of us here at UNH that we are extremely proud of all that she has already achieved. We wish her nothing but the best with FH…they got a talented player and a great young lady."
