Men’s Soccer Ranked 23rd in the Nation by TopDrawerSoccer; Travel to UMass Sept. 6 (4 PM)

CULVER CITY, Calif. – The undefeated University of New Hampshire men's soccer team entered the TopDrawerSoccer.com national polls this week at No. 23. They are the only America East Conference team to be in the poll.
The Wildcats, who are 3-0-0 on the year, are coming off a 2-1 win over the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, Sept. 3 on the road and have also posted wins over Siena College (Aug. 30 – 2-1) and Bryant College (Aug. 26 – 3-1). The team takes on the University of Massachusetts on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. on the road.
Sophomore Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) leads the squad in points with for stemming from two goals. Senior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) and sophomore forward Alex Valencia (Tracey, Calif.) each have three points from a goal and an assist. Kristian Piippo (Honefoss, Norway), Kyle Brewster (New Hampton, N.H.) and Ben Gleditsch (Oslo, Noway) all have two points on one goal while Riley Ellis (Goffstown, N.H.) and William Picoux (Lorient, France) have one point apiece from one assist.
Goalkeeper Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) has spent every minute in goal for UNH as he holds a record of 3-0-0, a goals against average of 1.000 and a save percentage of .667.
SCOUTING MASSACHUSETTS: The Minutemen (0-2-1) are coming off a 1-1 draw against Saint Peter's on Saturday, Sept. 3. UMass took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Alex DeSantis, the first goal of the season for the team in the 19th minute of play. SPU tied the game at 1-1 in the 43rd minute of play on a penalty kick. UMass keeper Jorge Becerra made three saves on four shots faced.
DeSantis has the only goal of the year for the team as he leads the squad in points with two. Becerra has played every minute in net and has an 0-2-1 record with a 1.86 goals against average and a .769 save percentage.
INSIDE THE ALL-TIME SERIES: UNH and UMass have played each other 51 times and the Minutemen hold a 27-19-5 advantage all-time. Last year, the Wildcats shutout UMass by a score of 1-0 at home.
The Wildcats do not return home until Wednesday, Sept. 21 when they take on Northeastern University at 7:30 p.m. on Wildcat Stadium.
