Murphy’s Free-Kick Goal Not Enough at Northeastern

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Junior Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) scored a free-kick beauty as the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team fell 2-1 at Northeastern University, Sunday afternoon.

Highlights
-1st Half-
Eight minutes into the game, Lopiccolo tallied a goal for an early 1-0 lead. Cappuzzo placed a cross inside the box which Lopiccolo settled and buried on the right side. A few minutes later (11:41) Koemans scored her third of the season for NU. She took a fake shot and stepped left to finished top right. Murphy tallied her sixth on the season on a nice spin move outside the box. She spun right to left but a Huskie defender caught the junior's ankles and set her up for a free-kick, inches outside of the box. Murphy stepped up and curled the ball top left to reduce the deficit to one.
-2nd Half-
The second half featured more back-and-forth offense from both teams. Borkan made four saves in the half, including a penalty kick attempt that she read right from the start. It was in the 86th minute, still down by one, Borkan went to dive on a loose ball inside the box but got tangled with a NU player. The proceeding PK attempt was corralled after she took a few steps to her left, right before the kick, to catch the shot standing.
