GAME RECAP
- This game was billed as All 'Cats Wear Pink as both the UNH Wildcats and UVM Catamounts donned pink shooting shirts during pre-game warmups. Similar t-shirts were sold and there was a prize raffled off as a fundraiser for the Seacoast Cancer Center at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital (Dover, N.H).
- Vanessa VanderZalm (five goals, one assist) quickly gave Vermont a 1-0 lead with a goal 39 seconds into the game.
- UNH responded with three consecutive goals in less than three minutes to take a lead they would not relinquish.
- McHoul set up back-to-back goals by Grote at 25:13 and Schafer at 24:23 to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead, then McHoul scored off a rebound in front to extend the advantage to 3-1 at 22:43.
- UVM closed within one goal three times – at scored of 3-2, 7-6 and 8-7 – but never pulled even the rest of the way.
- Grote's milestone goal gave New Hampshire a 4-2 lead and ignited a 3-0 run. Devon Croke (three goals) and Schafer followd with goals at 12:14 and 4:46, respectively, to send UNH into halftime with a 6-2 lead.
- Jenna Janes score nine seconds into the second half to quickly trim the deficit to three goals.
- After a goal by Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) pushed UNH's lead to 7-3 at 28:08, the visitors responded with three consecutive goals by Brynne Yarrranton and VanderZalm (two) to close within 7-6 at 24:29.
- Croke struck again at 23:53 to create a two-goal cushion, but Alison Bolt answered 43 seconds later to once again make it a one-goal game.
- The roles of the senior captains reversed when Grote set up McHoul's goal at 20:52 and Croke potted her third goal of the game at 12:16 to push the lead to 10-7.
- Courtney Cole netted a free-position goal to lift Vermont within 10-8 at 11:30.
- New Hampshire called time out, Grote won the ensuing draw control and that possession led to a goal by Marissa Gurello (Manorville, N.Y.) at 10:21.
- VanderZalm kept UVM's hopes alive by gaining possession on the next draw control, but the Catamounts lost the ball less than 30 seconds later.
- The Wildcats went into a spread offense before Shafer's goal pushed the lead to 12-8 at 7:46.
- After Vermont's timeout, McHoul won the draw control. UNH turned the ball over with six minutes remaining, but got it back with 5:16 to play when Schafer caused a turnover.
- UNH once again went into a spread offense, but lost the ball with just under three minutes on the clock at VanderZalm scored her fifth goal of the game to make it 12-9 at 2:19.
- UNH's Amy LeBel (Charlton, N.Y.) scooped up the ensuing draw control and the Wildcats maintained possession the rest of the way to win the Battle of the 'Cats.
