WHAT HAPPENED
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead at 3:54 of the second period while on a power play. The goal came when Casey Fitzgerald played a pass to Scott Savage near the point. Savage took a shot on net that was redirected by Austin Cangelosi and into the net.
BC took a 2-0 lead 40 seconds later on a goal by Zach Sanford. Michael Kim dumped the puck into the UNH zone to Teddy Doherty along the boards to the right of UNH netminder Danny Tirone (Trumbull, Conn.). Doherty played the puck to Sanford who was able to fake Tirone to his left and scoot the puck into the net behind him.
Wildcat senior forward Kyle Smith (Lumberton, N.J.) scored his third goal in two games at 16:48 of the second period to cut BC's lead to 2-1. The play came when freshman Marcus Vela (Burnaby, British Columbia) won a puck battle along the boards and sent a pass to junior blueliner Matias Cleland (Longmont, Colo.) who ripped a shot in on net. The shot was blocked by the BC defense, but Smith followed up and put the puck away for his sixth goal of the season.
Sophomore forward Andrew Poturalski (Williamsville, N.Y.) tied the game at 2-2 at the 7:52 mark of the third period with his 20th goal of the season. Junior forward Tyler Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) swatted a pass by the Eagles in the UNH zone down and senior forward Dan Correale (Prince George, British Columbia) corralled it and skated into the neutral zone with it. He played a pass to Poturalski. After a puck battle along the boards, Correale came away with the puck and sent it to Poturalski in front of the net who buried his shot.
The Eagles went up 4-2 with a pair of goals less than one minute apart. Michael Kim scored the third goal of the night for BC at 9:33 and was assisted by Alex Tuch and Steve Santini on the play. At 10:24, Adam Gilmour beat Tirone high on his glove side after being assisted by Chris Brown and Scott Savage.
Correale brought the Wildcats to within one at 11:13 of the third period with his 16th goal of the season. Kelleher played a pass to Poturalski behind the net to start the play. Poturalski sent a pass to Correale whose initial shot was saved by BC netminder Thatcher Demko, but while on the ice, Correale swung around and backhanded the puck into the goal.
