Carr scores first collegiate goal
DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman defenseman Alex Carr (Sackville, Nova Scotia) scored his first collegiate goal and junior forward Marty Lavins (Riga, Latvia) scored as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 6 Providence, 3-2, on Saturday evening at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex in Hockey East action. Providence wins the season series, 2-1-0.
The Wildcats fall to 14-17-1 (8-13-1 Hockey East), while the Friars advance to 22-9-2 (17-5-1 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a scoreless first period, Providence got on the board first with a shorthanded goal at 16:15 when Graham Gamache sent a pass across to Julius Sumpf, who fired a one-timer into the back of the net.
- Just 13 seconds later on the UNH power play, freshman forward Sam Oliver (Saint John, New Brunswick) sent a pass from the left side across to freshman defenseman Alex Carr (Sackville, Nova Scotia) , who was positioned at the top of the crease where he tapped it in for his first collegiate goal.
- At 6:57 of the third period, Will Elger put the Friars in the lead 2-1 on the penalty kill when he blasted a shot from the left faceoff circle into the top right corner of the net.
- Providence extended its lead 3-1 when John Mustard found the back of the net at 9:56 of the third period.
- At 18:25 of the third period, Lavins scored off a rebound from senior Cy LeClerc (Brentwood, N.H.) and cut the deficit to one for the 'Cats. Junior defensemen Brendan Fitzgerald (North Reading, Mass.) was also credited with an assist on the goal.
