DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 7 Providence, 6-1, on Friday evening at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex in Hockey East action.

The Wildcats fall to 11-14-1 (5-10-1 Hockey East), while the Friars improve to 17-7-2 (12-3-1 Hockey East).

Next up for the Wildcats will be a home-and-home series with Boston University on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 13-14. Friday is at the Whitt for Blue Out BU presented by Service Credit Union at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. The 'Cats will then play the Terriers at Agganis Arena on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead at the 1:57 mark in the first period when Sophomore forward Cam MacDonald (Hammond Plains, Nova Scotia) blasted a one-timer in front of the net off a pass from junior forward Nick Ring (Hingham, Mass) for the power play goal. Senior captain Morgan Winters (Osprey, Fla.) also assisted on the goal.
Providence evened the score at the 15:41 mark of the second period when Hudson Malinoski knocked in a rebound on the power play to make it 1-1.
Providence took the lead at the 3:42 mark in the third period when Aleski Kivioja netted in a rebound to make the score 2-1.
The Friars extended their lead 3-1 at the 4:20 mark in the third with a goal by Will Elger.
Providence scored when Tanner Adams tipped in a shot at the 9:50 mark to make the score 4-1, then at the 12:49 mark Will Elger scored on the breakaway to make the score 5-1.
The Friars final goal came on the power play when Logan Sawyer scored at the 16:43 mark in the third period.

The Wildcats went 1-3 on the power play, while the Friars went 2-4.
Senior goalie Kyle Chauvette (Goffstown, N.H.) tallied 24 saves for the Wildcats, while Jack Parsons made 22 saves for Providence.
