UNH Men’s Hockey Concludes Season vs. Northeastern in Hockey East Opening Round

Three different Wildcats found the back of the net
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Freshman defenseman Alex Carr (Sackville, Nova Scotia), sophomore forward Cam MacDonald (Hammonds Plains (Nova Scotia) and junior forward Nick Ring (Hingham, Mass.) each scored for the Wildcats but the No. 10 seed University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 7 seed Northeastern, 7-3, on Wednesday evening at Conte Forum on the campus of Boston College in the Opening Round of the Hockey East Playoffs.
MacDonald recorded two points as he added an assist, while senior forward Kristaps Skrastins (Grobina, Latvia) also tallied a multi-point game with two assists for two points.
The Huskies advance to the Hockey East Quarterfinals and will play at No. 2 seed UMass on Saturday, March 14 at 4 p.m.
The Wildcats conclude the season 14-20-1, while the Huskies improve to 17-17-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Huskies took an early 1-0 lead at 2:10 of the first period when Jacob Mathieu tipped in a shot by Dylan Compton.
- The Wildcats tied the game 1-1 at 2:00 of the second period when Carr knocked in his own rebound for a shorthanded goal. Skrastins and junior alternate captain Marty Lavins (Riga, Latvia) each posted an assist on the goal.
- Northeastern went up 2-1 at 7:41 when Tyler Fukakusa netted a goal on a rebound off a shot by Dylan Hryckowian.
- Then the Huskies extended their lead to 3-1 at 10:06 with a goal by Amine Hajibi from the right faceoff circle.
- The Wildcats cut the deficit to 3-2 as MacDonald blasted a one-timer to the back of the stick side of the net. Skrastins and junior defenseman Brendan Fitzgerald (North Reading, Mass.) each recorded an assist.
- Northeastern then made it a 4-2 contest at 17:04 with a power play goal by Joe Connor on a rebound, while Compton found the back of the net with 31 seconds remaining in the second period for the 5-2 lead.
- The Wildcats cut the NU advantage to 5-3 at 4:36 of the third period with a power play goal by Ring as he redirected a pass by MacDonald. Senior alternate captain Cy LeClerc (Brentwood, N.H.) also posted an assist on the goal.
- The Huskies clinched the 7-3 win with empty net goals by Giacomo Martino (16:51) and Noah Jones (17:39).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- UNH outshot NU, 27-24.
- UNH went 1-3 on the power play, while NU went 1-2.
- Senior goalie Kyle Chauvette (Goffstown, N.H.) posted 17 saves for the Wildcats, while Lawton Zacher posted 24 saves for the Huskies.
