Murphy Forces Overtime in Tie Against Vermont, 1-1

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team scored with under two minutes to play to force overtime and eventually tie with the University of Vermont, 1-1, Sunday afternoon.

-1st Half-
The first half was back and forth as both teams got accustomed to the wet and cold weather. UNH led in shots (4-3) in the opening stanza heading into the break.
-2nd Half-
In period two, Vermont got on the board first in the 78th minute on a cross from Garfinkel which connected with the head of Green inside the 6-yard mark for the go-ahead goal. The Catamounts went into defensive mode to hold onto the lead. In the 88th minute, Kikosicki of UNH kicked the ball into the Vermont zone which took a rainy bounce past a defenseman and ahead to Murphy who calmly finished bottom right to force overtime.
-Overtime Periods-
In the opening overtime period, the Wildcats rocketed a flurry of shots toward the Vermont net. Lane's attempt was blocked, Sydney Griffin (Hinsdale, Ill.) had a shot go high and Lane rifled one high as well. In the second overtime period, Vermont was on the attack with Borkan making four saves. The Wildcats also blocked two shots in the final stanza.
