Women’s Soccer Wraps Up Non-Conference Play With Northeastern (Sept. 20; 2 p.m.)

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team will close out non-conference play when they host Northeastern University on Sept. 20 (2 p.m.) at Bremner Field.
LAST TIME OUT FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE (2-4-3)
The Wildcats fell 2-1 in overtime to Harvard University (Sept. 17), the second straight overtime loss and third loss in a row. Senior Gabrielle Sloan (Stow, Mass.) scored the equalizer in the second half to send the match to overtime but Harvard's deciding goal was scored just 2:31 into the extra time period. Sloan led the team with three shots, followed by senior Caroline Murray (New Canaan, Conn.), sophomore Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) and freshman Gaby Dorsey (Hubertus, Wis.) with two apiece. Junior goalkeeper Mimi Borkan (Medfield, Mass.) made six saves on the night.
LAST TIME OUT FOR NORTHEASTERN (6-3-0)
The Huskies led at halftime over Dartmouth College, but three second-half goals for the Big Green cemented a 3-1 win over Northeastern. Junior Carina Deandreis scored the lone goal for the Huskies, assisted by classmate Mackenzie Dowd. Junior Breeana Koemans totaled two shots in the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Jill Quinn made five saves on the night.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
New Hampshire enters the contest with Murphy leading the team in points (10) with four goals and two assists. Sloan, who scored a goal in the last two matches, ranks second in points with four. Murray has totaled three assists on the season to lead the distribution effort. Goalkeeper Borkan has started all nine games (2-4-3), with 12 goals against, a 1.25 goals against average, 43 saves and a .782 save percentage.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Sophomore Kayla Cappuzzo leads the Huskies in points (12), with five goals and two assists, and paces Northeastern in shots (24). Classmate Hannah Lopiccolo has scored four goals and dished out one assist for nine points, second on the team. The distribution leaders are sophomore Carly Wilhelm and freshman Nicole Gorman who each have three assists. In net, Quinn has made all nine starts with seven goals allowed and 11 saves made (.611 save percentage) with a 4-2-0 record. Backup keeper, freshman Natalie Nidetch has played in eight games with five goals allowed and 16 saves for a 2-1-0 overall record. Last season, the Huskies competed in the second round of the NCAA tournament where they lost 3-0 to No. 2 Florida State University.
ALL-TIME RECORD VS. NORTHEASTERN
The Huskies control the all-time series with an 8-6-3 record against the Wildcats. Last season, the Wildcats fell 1-0 at Northeastern (Aug. 31.). The last New Hampshire win against the Huskies was in 2003, when the team won 2-0 at home (Oct. 13).
CLOSING OUT NON-CONFERENCE PLAY
In the final non-conference game of the season, the Wildcats are 2-1-2 (all on the road) in the last five years, including a three-year unbeaten streak. New Hampshire defeated Yale University 1-0 last season, tied with the College of the Holy Cross 0-0 in double overtime in 2013 and defeated the Crusaders 2-1 in overtime in 2012.
MURRAY DISHES
When Murray records an assist this season, the 'Cats at 2-1-0 overall. She recorded assists in a 2-0 win against Holy Cross (Aug. 27) at home, a 2-1 win against Quinnipiac University (Sept. 4) at the University of Vermont, and a 1-1 tie with Kent State University (Sept. 6) a few days later. The senior leads the team with three assists this season, and has totaled eight through two seasons with UNH.
The Wildcats begin conference play when they host Binghamton University on Sunday, Sept. 27 (2 p.m.).
