Donegan Leads Women’s Cross Country to 21st Place Finish at Pre Nationals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) placed 23rd overall in the 6k race as the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team secured a 21st place finish at Pre Nationals, Saturday morning at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
New Hampshire earned 597 points for 21st place out of 45 of the top cross country colleges in the country. The Wildcats placed third overall against Northeast region schools to help build toward the America East Championship (Oct. 31) and the NCAA Regional Championships (Nov. 13).
Donegan finished the race in 20 minutes, 29.6 seconds for 23rd place, 31 spots ahead of her seeded position.
Senior Amber Short (Keene, N.H.) finished the race in 21:12.6 for 114th place after starting the race seeded 163rd. With a time of 21:21.1, Samantha Blais (Lyndeborough, N.H.) finished 136th overall followed by senior Brianna Boden (Keene, N.H.) who finished fourth for the Wildcats in a time of 21:25.8 for 147th place, taking a 46 spot jump from her starting position of 193.
The lone Wildcat freshman, Shannon Murdock (Exeter, N.H.) placed 195th with a time of 21:42.9. Junior Sarah Keiran (Rowley, Mass.) wrapped up the race in 22:02.2 for 242nd overall followed by senior Alex Giese (Franklin, Mass.) who finished 280th with a time of 22:25.8.
New Hampshire will compete at Central Connecticut State University on Oct. 23 for a CCSU Mini Meet at Stanley Park before heading to the America East Championship at Stony Brook University on Oct. 31.
