Men's Soccer Falls To Stony Brook in AE Action, 1-0

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell to Stony Brook University late in the second half by a score of 1-0 Saturday afternoon in America East play at LaValle Stadium.
With the loss, the Wildcats slip to 4-5-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in conference play. The Seawolves improve their record to 3-6-1 overall and 1-0-0 in America East.
Stony Brook posted the lone goal of the game at 84:28 as Favio Sbarro headed the ball into the back of the net off a cross from Fernando Wadskier.
Senior goalkeeper Travis Worra (Lancaster, Pa.) for the 'Cats took the loss in net, making four saves in 90 minutes of action. Stony Brook's Tom McMahon earned two saves in the win between the pipes.
Senior forward David Schlatter (Marlton, N.J.) led the Wildcats' attack with three shots in the game and two on target.
In the first half, New Hampshire blasted three consecutive shots in the 27th, 28th and 29th minute. UNH earned a corner kick at 32nd minute and at 33:07, Schlatter had a chance to get the Wildcats on the board with a header. However, McMahon came up with the save.
At halftime, it was a scoreless game with New Hampshire posting five shots while the Seawolves had one.
Sophomore midfielder Christopher Wingate (Hovik, Norway) started the Wildcats' offense with a shot of his own in the 48th minute to open up the second half and sophomore Erik Martel's (Bedford, N.H.) shot went wide of the net in the at the 53rd minute.
Stony Brook had several offensive chances from the 54th minute to the 60th minute. At 55:29, Wadskier's header was on target, but Worra came up with the big save. The Seawolves had two corner kick opportunities and added two shots in the 60th minute.
One of Schaltter's three shots the came in the 62nd minute and the Seawolves goalkeeper made the save.
The Seawolves earned the win as they were outshot by UNH, 10-8 and Stony Brook recorded six corner kicks compared to New Hampshire's three.
The Wildcats are back in action Saturday Oct. 11 (1 p.m.) as the team takes on Binghamton University in conference play.
