Purrier Places First, Women's XC Finishes First Overall at New England Championships to Reclaim Title

BOSTON – The University of New Hampshire women's cross country team took a first place (61 points) at the New England Championships Saturday afternoon from Franklin Park claiming their second title in back-to-back years. The race consisted of 39 colleges/universities and 262 runners.
The women's squad has earned their fourth New England Championship Title since entering the race back in 1975.
Three runners finished in the top 10 all with a time under 18 minutes for the 'Cats in the 5k race.
Sophomore Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) paced the Wildcats to a first place finish (17:24). Last year, she placed first as well with a time of 17:33.
Senior co-captain Anne Twombly (Exeter, N.H.) placed sixth with a time of 17:46 while junior Samantha Blais ran a time of 17:57 to take a ninth place finish.
Runners, Lauren Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) and Amber Short (Keene, N.H.) ran times of 18:09 and 18:12 for a 21st and 26th place finish respectively.
Following the New Englands, UNH takes a week off and are back in action on Friday, Oct 24 traveling to New Britain, Conn. to compete in the Central Connecticut State University Mini Meet at Stanley Park. The women's 5k race is set to commence at 3 p.m.
