   DURHAM, N.H.- The University of New Hampshire women's basketball team will host Maine on Tuesday, Jan. 6 to open up America East action. The Wildcats and the Black Bears will be the first two America East conference teams to go head-to-head in the 2008-09 season. New Hampshire is 14-10 all-time in conference openers. The Wildcats are 3-2 in the past five conference openers and each of the three wins have come at home in Lundholm Gymnasium. This marks the first time since Jan. 5, 1991 that the Wildcats have hosted the Black Bears in a conference opener. The Wildcats swept the series last year, including a 70-55 home win.

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Greg Collins (Fairport, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team was named Hockey East Reebok Player of the Week. The announcement was made on Monday afternoon by the league office.  Collins becomes the first UNH player to win this award since Mike Sislo (Superior, Wis.) earned the honor on Dec. 15, 2008.

DURHAM, N.H. — The University of New Hampshire has announced two schedule changes to the remaining 2009 women's ice hockey regular-season schedule. The game originally scheduled for Dec. 12, 2008 at Harvard University has been moved to Feb. 17, 2009; game time at Harvard's Bright Hockey Center is 7 p.m. In addition, the game against Providence College originally scheduled for Feb. 15, 2009 has been shifted to Feb. 14; opening faceoff at UNH's Whittemore Center is 7 p.m. Tickets are available to that game by clicking here.

ORONO, Maine  –  Trailing 4-2 and short-handed with just over seven minutes remaining in the third, No. 14 University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team rallied with three-straight goals to capture a 5-4 win over the University of Maine on Sunday afternoon at Alfond Arena. Bobby Butler (Marlboro, Mass.) scored the game-winner with 2:21 remaining in the third period. UNH improves to 9-6-3 with a 6-4-2 mark in Hockey East, while Maine is now 10-7-2, 5-5-1 HEA. The Wildcats have now won five-straight against the Black Bears and four in a row at Alfond.

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore guard Alvin Abreu (Lynn, Mass.) posted a career-high 28 points to propel the University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team to a 58-54 victory over West Coast Conference-power Santa Clara University on Sunday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium.
     After the first-ever meeting between the two squads, the Wildcats improve to 4-7 on the season, while the Broncos fall to 7-9.

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team will open 2009 when it plays host to Santa Clara University on Sunday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. at Lundholm Gymnasium. The game will be broadcast live on Yahoo! Radio, with the link available at www.UNHWildcats.com. The meeting will be the first for the Wildcats and Broncos. Ten minutes following the conclusion of the game, the Wildcats will host an autograph session in the main lobby of the Field House.

Four players on the Xavier University women's basketball team scored in double-figures to allow for a 62-36 victory against the University of New Hampshire on Friday evening at the Cintas Center. The game was preceded by a ceremony which honored the career of Tara Boothe, current UNH assistant coach and former Xavier standout. The school’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder’s number (33) was also retired.
    New Hampshire (2-11) was led in scoring by Candace Williams (Norfolk, Mass.) with 11 points, which marked her 13th straight game in double-digits in the 2008-09 season. Freshman guard Lauren Wells (West Chester, Pa.) chipped in with a career-high eight points for the Wildcats.

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forward Mike Sislo (Superior, Wis.) of the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team was selected as Hockey East Reebok Player of the Month for December. The announcement was made Jan. 2 by the Hockey East league office. Sislo, who was named the National Player of the Week on Dec. 16, becomes the first Wildcat to win Player of the Month honors since Mike Radja in February 2008.

The announcement was made on Jan. 2 by the league office. Wakefield becomes the first Wildcat to win this award since Sam Faber (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) did so in March 2008.
