Zachary Astle, a junior from Newbury, New Hampshire, helped power the UNH men’s indoor track & field team to a sixth place finish at the New England Inter-Collegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championships, which were held Feb. 1-2 at Northeastern University.
On the opening day of competition, Zachary finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 58 feet, 6.5 inches that bested 22 other student-athletes. Then on Day 2, his throw of 54-1.25 earned fifth place among 22 competitors in the shot put.
The New England Championships marked the first time this season Zachary did not win the weight throw. He has finished atop the podium at the Dartmouth Relays and four dual meets. He has also won the shot put in three of those dual meets.
Zachary is the defending America East conference champion in the shot put.
UNH returns to action this weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational (Boston University) and URI Coaches Tribute Meet. The America East Championships are Feb. 22-23.
