BOSTON — The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team fell to No. 15 Boston University on Friday evening (Oct. 24) at Walter Brown Arena, dropping a 4-2 decision to the Terriers.
Boston University struck first late in the opening period, when Kaileigh Quigg fired the puck through traffic, connecting with the twine to give the Terriers a 1-0 advantage while shorthanded. With just over a minute to play in the opening period and just 58 seconds after the opening goal, the Wildcats responded as Alyson Hush (Scarborough, Ontario) fed the puck to freshman Kristen Hartman (Newmarket, Ontario), who tapped it past Michelle Pasiechnyk to tie it 1-1.
The 'Cats took their first and only lead of the evening 13:58 into the middle frame, when Hush collected a feed from Danika Botterill (Portage La Prairie, Manitoba), before beating Pasiechnyk and giving UNH the 2-1 go-ahead. In similar fashion to the first period, the Terriers responded under a minute later, when Lucy Theissen finished on a set-up from Lexie Bertelsen on the power-play, leaving a 2-2 score through 40 minutes of play.
The Terriers regained the lead early in the third period, when Sydney Healy found the back of the net on an assist from Luisa Welcke, giving BU the 3-2 lead with 16:07 to go in the game. Despite an offensive performance that saw the Wildcats outshoot the Terriers 15-14, Boston University iced the game with 26 seconds to play, when Healy launched the puck from the defensive zone, cashing into the empty net for the final 4-2 figure.
Hush paced the Wildcats on offense, with a one goal, one assist performance, while Hartman registered her second goal on the year and both Botterill and Sadie Makokis (St. Albert, Alberta) finished with an assist. Callista Printz (Buffalo, N.Y.) finished the game with team-highs in both shots on goal (five) and shot blocks (three).
