Ryan Sullivan completed his second year with the UNH volleyball staff in 2022 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He was subsequently promoted to Associate Head Coach in January of 2023 after helping the team to a 19-10 record and an America East Championship game appearance in the 2022 season. In his two years on staff, the team has compiled a winning record of 35-22 and a 13-9 record in conference play. He was hired by head coach Christopher Feliciano in July of 2021.
Sullivan, who is a 2012 graduate of Indiana University, comes to UNH with experience at three Power Five schools. Sullivan was previously as assistant coach at his alma mater, as well as Northwestern University and Mississippi State University.
At Northwestern, Sullivan’s duties included: training, evaluation and statistical analysis of the service phase; assisting the head trainer with team development, planning, scouting, scheduling and execution; and assisting the recruiting coordinator with recruiting database management.
Sullivan served as assistant coach and video coordinator at Mississippi State, where he developed and trained offensive systems with a specialization in setter development.
Prior to his time in Starkville, he held the dual role of associate head coach at Jacksonville University while simultaneously leading the beach volleyball program as head coach. In 2017, JU finished second in the ASUN with an RPI of 129 and libero Mackenzie Swan earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. The Jacksonville beach team also qualified for the ASUN championships. The Dolphins led the ASUN in digs per set with 16.94. His roles as associate head coach included: implement high-level training for all positions and skills as primary trainer; lead scout as technical and video coordinator; and develop defenders, blockers and servers as defensive coordinator.
Sullivan’s other coaching experience includes head coach at Louisburg College and assistant coach at Villanova University. In 2015, Villanova led the Big East in opponent hitting percentage, appeared in the Big East championship match and he helped guide the team to a NCAA tournament at-large berth. The Wildcats finished 39th in the RPI and boasted two All-East region players. Villanova had five wins against Top 75 RPI teams in 2015, which included victories against Creighton, Marquette, Xavier (2) and James Madison.
Sullivan began his coaching career at Indiana after graduating with a B.A. in Psychology. He helped middle blocker Ashley Benson earn All-America honors while with the Hoosiers in 2011.
He was a five-year setter on the club team, and in 2011 he was named the MIVA Player of the Year and led the team to a No. 3 final rank. He was also a three-year practice player with the varsity team and in 2011 the Hoosiers made a Sweet 16 run.
