Kate Gunts joined the UNH women's lacrosse staff as an assistant coach in June 2016, and the Wildcats have advanced to the America East semifinals three of the four years she has been on staff (there was no conference tournament in the COVD-shortened 2020 season).
Gunts was a four-year letterwinner at UNH who graduated magna cum laude with a Communications degree in 2012.
In 2019, protege Issy Torres was named to the America East All-Rookie Team to become the first Wildcat goalkeeper to receive that honor since 2010. Torres was also the first Wildcat goalie to record 10 wins since '10. She ranked third in the conference with an 11.64 GAA, and that number improved to 10.43 in seven America East conference games.Â
The native of Wilton, Conn. compiled a 20-9 career record in 42 career games (28 starts). As a freshman in 2009, Gunts ranked fourth in the nation with an 8.18 goals-against average. She played in 16 of 19 games that season with 11 starts and had a 9-5 record. Gunts recorded a.421 save percentage with a 5-1 record in 2010. As a senior in 2012, she went 3-1 with a personal single-season best .444 save percentage.
Â
Gunts was named to the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll all four years for recording a grade-point-average higher than 3.50.
Â
Prior to returning to her alma mater, Gunts was an assistant coach at Ohio Wesleyan University for two seasons (2015, 2016). The Battling Bishops improved by three games from her first to second year as the goalkeepers’ save percentage improved from .388 to .410. Two student-athletes garnered All-North Coast Athletic Conference Second Team recognition in 2015, and freshman goalie Kelly Coffyn was named an All-NCAC Honorable Mention selection this year.
Â
Gunts served as head goalkeepers coach with the Revolution Lacrosse Club (Westchester, N.Y.) for more than a year before beginning her collegiate coaching career at Ohio Wesleyan.
Â
After graduating from UNH, Gunts spent two years as a production assistant with NBC Sports/Olympics, where she worked with Sunday Night Football as well as both the Summer Olympics in London and Winter Olympics in Sochi.
