O'Rourke Records Career-High Three Points in 14-8 Loss to BU

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior captain Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) and junior Kate O'Rourke (Franklin, Mass.) recorded three points apiece but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 14-8 by Boston University in Wednesday afternoon's non-conference game at Wildcat Stadium.
Connerty finished with a team-high three goals while O'Rourke matched her career highs of two goals and one assist for a personal-best three points. Erin Fagan (Clarksburg, Md.), Makayla Keys (Fairport, N.Y.) and Rose Pavuk (York, Maine) each recorded a goal and an assist.
Freshman goalkeeper Ellie Thomas (Needham, Mass.), the reigning America East Rookie of the Week, was credited with 12 saves, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
BU was led offensively by Leah Hodgins (three goals, one assist), Tessa Geddes (2g, 1a) and Hannah Tillier (2g, 1a). Natalie Aiosa made seven of her 15 saves in the first quarter.
UNH moves to 2-5 and BU is now 5-3.

- UNH's next home game is March 21 (3 p.m.) for a Senior Day matchup against UMBC.

- UNH scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead a little more than four minutes into the game, but BU scored the next four goals and never relinquished the lead.
- Keys struck first on a free-position goal at 13:36.
- O'Rourke beat a pair of defenders down the middle of the fan and fired a low shot into the goal for a 2-0 lead at 10:50.
- BU's Elle Stevenson scored 34 seconds, however, to ignite a flurry of four goals in less than four minutes that gave the visitors a 4-2 lead at 8:26,
- From the left wing, Pavuk found Fagan inside the top of the 12-meter. Fagan advanced down the middle and, from five meters, fires a shot inside the right post to lift UNH within 4-3 at 6:02.
- Geddes scored a free-position goal at 2:28 to reestablish a two-goal advantage.

- Connerty one-timed a rebound in front of the goalie crease into the net to once again trim the deficit to one goal, 5-4, at 13:55.
- Izabella Amonte scored at 10:00 to give BU a 6-4 lead.
- Connerty caught a pass in the middle of the fan, turned and ripped a shot into the upper-left corner to make it a one-goal game, 6-5, at 6:59. Fagan, with the feed from the top of the 12m, was credited with the assist.
- The exchange of goals continued on BU's tally by Kendall Sims at 5:19 to advance the score to 7-5.

- For the third consecutive quarter, UNH struck first when Keys slipped a pass from behind the net to O'Rourke, who dropped her stick low to scored her second goal of the game and lift the 'Cats within a goal, 7-6, for the fourth time.
- Boston U. scored the last three goals of the quarter, however, as the Terriers built the first lead of more than two goals, 10-6, through 45 minutes.

- Hodgins and Hannah Tillier scored at 12:41 and 11:37, respectively to quickly extend the margin to 12-6.
- BU extended the run to six consecutive goals on Hodgins' third tally at 3:10.
- From the top of the 12m, Julia Gronda (Pompton Plains, N.J.) found Connerty cutting across the fan from the right wing and she tallied her third goal of the game to trim the deficit to 13-7 at 2:05.
- Tillier struck again with 38 seconds on the clock.
- The Wildcats won the ensuing draw control and Pavuk, cutting down the middle after receiving a pass from O'Rourke, fired a low shot into the goal with 16 seconds to play to cap the scoring.

- Connerty has 49 goals and 68 assists for 117 career points in 49 games. The 68 assists ranks No. 5 on UNH's all-time leaderboard.
- Connerty matched her career high of three ground balls.
- Fagan tied her high of two points and led all players with a season-high six draw controls.
- O'Rourke had a career-high two ground balls and equaled her high of three draw controls.
- Pavuk, who never had more than one draw control in a game, had five.
- Delaney True (Windham, N.H.) had a career-high two ground balls and also had a caused turnover.
- Paige Kenny (Kensington, Md.) matched her season high of two ground balls; she also had a caused turnover.
- Thomas has recorded 10+ saves in 6 of 7 games. She entered the game ranked No. 9 in the nation in saves per game (11.17).

- UNH finished with a 32-30 edge in shots but BU had the 26-23 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Wildcats also had the edge in draw controls, 14-13.
- BU held an 18-14 margin in ground balls.
- UNH committed 17 turnovers in comparison to the Terriers' 11.
