Connerty Tallies Six Points in 17-9 Loss at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior captain Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) recorded six points but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 17-9 by Quinnipiac University at Quinnipiac Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Connerty matched her career high of four goals and also had two assists to equal her best of six points; she was also credited with two ground balls. Sophomore Makayla Keys (Fairport, N.Y.) was the other Wildcat to tally multiple points with two goals.
Freshman goalkeeper Ellie Thomas (Needham, Mass.) made 11 saves and collected one ground ball.
Quinnipiac was led by Abby Wise's nine points (six goals, three assists) and Shannon Alden's nine saves.
UNH is now 1-3 and QU is 3-1.

FIRST QUARTER
- New Hampshire recorded a 10-8 shot advantage in the opening 15 minutes but the home team outscored the 'Cats 3-1.
- Qunnipiac took a 2-0 lead on goals by Mia Delmond (at 10:10) and Cate Bendowski (7:22).
- Connerty lifted UNH within 2-1 at 5:59 when she scored on a low shot from the middle of the fan.
- Wise reestablished a two-goal lead, 3-1, at 2:17.
SECOND QUARTER
- Both teams scored four goals in the second quarter to advance the score to 7-5 through 30 minutes.
- EllaGrace Delmond made it 4-1 at 13:15.
- Connerty beat a defender down the left side and advanced to the front of the goal before scoring on a low shot to trim the deficit to 4-2 at 12:07.
- Keys scored on a one-timer in front of the cage to pull the 'Cats within 4-3 at 11:12.
- EllaGrace Delmond and Wise scored 38 seconds apart to give the Bobcats a 6-3 lead at 7:25.
- On a free position from the left side, Libby Boland (Victor, N.Y.) slipped a pass to Keys cutting down the middle and she scored to lift UNH within 6-4 at 6:55.
- Wise struck against at 4:58 to give the home team at 7-4 lead.
- Rose Pavuk (York, Maine) curled behind the net to the left post, took a step back to create space from her defender and ripped a shot into the cage to push the score to 7-5 with 13 seconds on the clock.
THIRD QUARTER
- QU outscored the 'Cats 6-2 in the third quarter to open a 13-7 advantage.
- Connerty opened the second half scoring when she batted a bouncing ball inside the left post at 14:36 to trim the deficit to one goal, 7-6.
- The Bobcats went on a 6-0 run, however, to build at 13-6 lead at 1:30.
- Connerty netted her fourth goal of the game on a free position from the top of the 8-meter with 44 seconds left in the third quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Eva de Matteis (New Boston, N.H.) caught Connerty's pass cutting down the middle of the fan, sidestepped to the left to avoid a defender and scored to pull UNH within 13-8 at 14:15.
- QU scored the next two goals at 11:56 and 9:21 to extend the advantage to 15-8.
- Mia Gialto (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored on a low shot off a free position on the right side to make it 15-9 at 5:47.
- Wise and Mia Delmond struck again at 5:01 and 3:57, respectively, to close the scoring.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Connerty established her high of four goals Feb. 9, 2024 against Marist College. She set her best of six points vs. Bryant University on April 15, 2023.
- Gialto scored her first career goal to mark her first point.
- This was Keys' second multiple-goal game of the season.
- Keys and Boland tied for the team lead with two caused turnovers.
- Kendall Donovan (Westford, Mass.) led all players with four ground balls.
- de Matteis finished with a team-high five draw controls.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Quinnipiac had a 35-27 edge in shots that included 28-18 on goal.
- The Bobcats also had a 14-11 advantage in ground balls.
- UNH recorded more draw controls (15-14).
