Pavuk's Career-High Seven Points Propels 'Cats Past Merrimack, 14-10

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Junior attack Rose Pavuk (York, Maine) recorded seven points and freshman goalkeeper Ellie Thomas (Needham, Mass.) made 16 saves to lead the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Saturday's 14-10 victory against Merrimack at Duane Stadium.
Pavuk finished with three goals and four assists for seven points to record career highs in all three stats. Thomas' 16 saves also marked a personal best.
Senior captain Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) tallied three goals and assist to lead six other 'Cats who recorded multiple points. Freshman attack Libby Boland (Victor, N.Y.; two goals, one assist) and freshman midfielder Charlize Collins (Burlington, Mass.; goal, two assists) both had three points.
Merrimack was led by Lindsay Atkinson (goal, four assists) and Allison Lamphere (four goals). Starting goalie Hannah Lawrence made two saves and allowed six goals in one quarter; she was charged with the loss. Hayley Kowalczyk made 10 saves and surrendered eight goals in the last three quarters.
UNH improved to 2-3 and MC is 0-5.

- The Wildcats' next home game is March 12 (4 p.m.) against Boston University.

- Connerty scored the first two goals of the game at 14:27 and 12:14 to spark a game-opening 5-0 run for the Wildcats.
- Kate O'Rourke (Franklin, Mass.) finished a feed from Pavuk, who also set up Connerty's second goal, to extend the lead to 3-0 at 11:07.
- Boland scored consecutive goals at 8:08 and 5:38 – assists went to Connerty and Julia Gronda (Pompton Plains, N.J.), respectively – to push the margin to 5-0.
- Merrimack responded with four consecutive goals to trim the deficit to 5-4 at 2:38.
- Collins won the ensuing draw control and went directly to goal to score her first career goal and reestablish a two-goal lead, 6-4, at 2:29.

- Both teams went scoreless through the first half of the second quarter until MC's Lamphere scored a 7:34 to once again lift the home team within a goal, 6-5.
- Pavuk caught Collins' pass on the left side of the fan, advanced to the center and scored on a low shot to give UNH a 7-5 lead.
- The Warriors closed the gap to one goal for the third time on Lamphere's goal at 5:32.
- New Hampshire ended the half on a 3-0 run to build a 10-6 advantage.
- Pavuk scored on a free position at 3:07 and then Eva de Matteis (New Boston, N.H.) factored in the next two goals with an assist on O'Rourke's tally at 1:36 and then by scoring with 15 seconds on the clock.

- Lamphere's fourth goal of the game lifted Merrimack within 10-7 at 14:18 of the third quarter.
- Thomas stopped all four shots on goal the rest of the quarter, however, to allow the 'Cats to extend their lead.
- Connerty scored her third goal of the game on a free position for an 11-7 lead at 9:31.
- Pavuk, with the assistance of Boland, made it 12-7 at 3:45 and then she set up Gronda's goal at 1:13 that pushed the margin to 13-7.

- Makayla Keys (Fairport, N.Y.) gave UNH its largest lead of the game, 14-7, at 12:19 of the final quarter. Pavuk tallied her fourth assist on the tally.
- MC scored goals at 7:19, 5:00 and 2:53 to close within 14-10.

- Thomas, who held Merrimack scoreless for 21 minutes, 59 seconds in the second half, surpassed her previous high of 14 saves (Feb. 15 at Brown). She has recorded 10+ saves three times in five games.
- Pavuk shattered her previous highs of two goals, three assists and four points.
- Boland had career highs of two goals and three points.
- Collins recorded her first career goal and assists.
- Gronda matched her personal best of two points.
- O'Rourke recorded her first career multiple-goal game to match her high of two points.
- de Matteis finished with two points for her first career multiple-point game.
- In addition to four points, Connerty had a team-high two caused turnovers and a ground ball.

- Merrimack had a 34-33 shot advantage; shots on goal were even at 26.
- The Warriors also had the edge in ground balls (15-5) and draw controls (14-8).
- UNH was successful on 16 of 18 clear attempts in comparison to MC's 12 of 16.
- The Wildcats scored on 2 of 3 free-position shots; the Warriors were 3-for-8.
- The 'Cats committed 11 turnovers and Merrimack had 10.

- UNH has won all five lifetime meetings against Merrimack.
- The Wildcats are 2-0 at Duane Stadium; they won 10-7 in 2022.
