VESTAL, N.Y. – Junior John Prizzi (Wyckoff, N.J.) placed first overall of 87 runners to claim the individual title at the America East Cross Country Championships Saturday as the University of New Hampshire men's cross country team placed fourth overall at the event. The event was held at Binghamton University.
Prizzi's performance of 24:55.22 earned him the first individual title by a Wildcat runner since Anthony Truax completed the feat in 2004. It is just the fourth time in school history that a UNH runner has earned the America East Individual Championship.
Junior tri-captain, John Morretti (Guilford, Conn.) took eighth place in the 8K course as he finished the race with a time of 25:17.53. Senior Kent Harlow (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) was three spots behind Moretti as he finished with a time of 25:24.00. Junior Sam Gagnon (Hooksett, N.H.) finished 23rd with a result of 25:43.33 as sophomore Brendan McCarthy (Mansfield, Mass.) crossed the line with a time of 26:00.82.
Junior Zachary Chabot (Manchester, N.H.) placed 33rd with a result of 26:04.49 while freshman Ryan Chiesa (Stockholm, N.J.) and senior Nathaniel Hathaway (Scarborough, Maine) finished in tandem in 33rd and 34th. Chiesa finished with a time of 26:18.45 while Hathaway came in at 26:20.55.
