Pavuk Scores Four Goals in 16-7 Season-Opening Loss at BU

BOSTON – Senior attack Rose Pavuk (York, Maine) matched her career high of four goals but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team lost 16-7 to Boston University in Friday afternoon's season opener at Nickerson Field.
Juniors Erin Fagan (Clarksburg, Md.) and Makayla Keys (Fairport, N.Y.) and sophomore Charlize Collins (Burlington, Mass.) each scored a goal. Sophomore Libby Boland (Victor, N.Y.) finished with two assists for her first career multiple-assist game.
Senior Kate O'Rourke (Franklin, Mass.) and junior Piper Boudreau (Chelmsford, Mass.) both had an assist. O'Rourke also led the Wildcats with two ground balls. Sophomore Sarah Zwack (Weston, Conn.) had a team-high three draw controls.
Junior goalkeeper Emma Crater (Littleton, Colo.) made 11 saves in her Wildcat debut. She was also credited with a ground ball and one caused turnover.
BU was led by Tessa Geddes (four goals), Alex Cutone (three), and Abby Cotraro (two goals, one assist) while goalie Natalie Aiosa stopped 13 shots.

FIRST QUARTER
- BU built a 5-1 lead through 15 minutes with an 11-5 shot advantage that included 9-2 on goal.
- Crater made a save on the first shot she faced as a Wildcat when she denied Izabella Amonte at 13:59.
- Tessa Geddes and Jayne Feeney scored free-position goals at 11:47 and 11:14, respectively, to take a 2-0 lead.
- Avery Cutair netted a player-up goal from the top of the crease to extend the advantage to 3-0 at 6:37.
- Collins scored UNH's first goal of the 2026 season on a free-position shot from the top of the 8-meter at 5:16 while the Wildcats were a player down.
- Geddes struck again at 4:43 and Alex Cutone scored a free-position goal at 3:27 to give BU a 5-1 lead.
SECOND QUARTER
- Both teams scored two goals in the second quarter to advance the score to 7-3 in favor of the Terriers. UNH recorded a 9-7 shot advantage, including 7-3 on goal.
- From the top of the 12-meter, O'Rourke slipped a pass to the middle of the fan, where Pauvk turned a fired a shot under the crossbar to trim the deficit to 5-2 at 14:00.
- Geddes and Amonte scored consecutive free-position goals at 5:44 and 2:41, respectively, to extend the margin to 7-2.
- On a free position from the top of the 8-meter, Keys slung a sidearm shot inside the right post to decrease the lead to 7-3 with 45 seconds on the clock.
THIRD QUARTER
- BU outscored the 'Cats 3-2 in the third quarter with a 9-5 shot advantage, including 6-4 on goal, to build a 10-5 lead.
- BU's Jayne Feeney opened the second-half scoring at 13:51 to reestablish a five-goal cushion, 8-3.
- Pavuk scored a highlight-reel goal at 11:48 when she caught Boudreau's pass at the top of the crease and fired a shot behind her back over the left shoulder inside the left post.
- Boland found Pavuk cutting in from the left wing and she scored her third goal of the game to lift UNH within 9-5 at 8:18.
- Cutone's free-position goal closed the third quarter scoring at 5:22.
FOURTH QUARTER
- BU outscored UNH 6-2 in the fourth quarter on an 11-6 shot advantage to pull away for the win.
- Geddes' fourth goal of the game gave the Terriers an 11-5 lead 23 seconds into the final frame.
- Fagan charged down the middle on a free position and fired a low shot into the netting to lift the Wildcats within 11-6 at 12:48.
- BU scored four consecutive goals to build its largest lead of the game, 15-6, at 6:58.
- From the top of the 12-meter, Boland hit Pavuk in stride as she sliced down the middle of the fan and scored her fourth goal of the game at 3:49.
- The Terriers capped the scoring with 57 seconds to play.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Pavuk established her high of four goals April 19, 2025 against Binghamton University.
- In addition to Crater, junior Elizabeth Cleary (Branchburg, N.J.) and freshman Katie Torr (Naples, Fla.) made their Wildcat debuts in the season opener.
- Cleary finished with one ground ball and one caused turnover.
- Torr was credited with a ground ball and one draw control.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Boston U. finished with the advantage in shots (38-25) and draw controls (18-6).
