Keys Nets Game-Winning Goal in OT, Propels 'Cats to First Win, 9-8

Libby Boland posted a career-high five-point performance.
SMITHFIELD, R.I. — The University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team overcame a late push from the University of Rhode Island (0-2, 0-0 A10) on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 10) at Beirne Stadium, winning 9-8 in overtime.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Wildcats got going early on offense, striking twice with scores from Rose Pavuk (York, Maine) and Makayla Keys (Fairport, N.Y.) in the opening 94 seconds to give New Hampshire the 2-0 edge in the first quarter.
-The Rams and 'Cats traded goals just over three minutes later, when Rhode Island found their first score of the game, a strike from Caralie Basuel with 10:04 to play, followed by a Libby Boland (Victor, N.Y.) goal at the 9:02 mark.
-Rhode Island closed the first quarter action 3:01 later, when Celie Shield scored to make it 3-2.
-The Wildcats doubled their advantage with 5:30 left to play in the second quarter on a strike from Boland.
-New Hampshire netted their fifth goal of the game with 7:15 to go in the third quarter off a shot from Kate O'Rourke (Franklin, Mass.), who gave the Wildcats their largest lead of the day, a 5-2 edge.
-Rhode Island began to claw back in the final 4:29 of the third quarter, with goals from three different Rams at the 4:29, 3:15, and 2:26 marks forcing a 5-5 tie entering the fourth quarter.
-O'Rourke collected her second goal of the day just 57 seconds into the fourth, matching her career-high in goals while regaining the lead for the 'Cats.
-In the final 10 minutes of the fourth quarter, Rhode Island's Kyndall Jackson went back-and-forth with Libby Boland, with each attacker netting a pair of goals across the frame, including a game-tying shot from Jackson with three seconds left to force overtime.
-Just over a minute into the overtime period, Makayla Keys found the back of the net for the second time, taking a feed from Piper Boudreau (Chelmsford, Mass.) and firing past Rhode Island's Casey Phelps to secure the Wildcats' first win of the season.
