Taylor Bastien Leads 'Cats to Victory in UNH Head Coach Debut
DURHAM, N.H. – Senior captain Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) recorded five points, including the 100th of her career, to lead the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Saturday's 15-5 season-opening victory against Marist College at Wildcat Stadium.
Connerty finished with two goals and three assists for a game-high five points. Sophomore Makayla Keys (Fairport, N.Y.) scored a game-high four goals while junior Rose Pavuk (York, Maine) also recorded four points with a goal and three assists.
Juniors Julia Gronda (Pompton Plains, N.J.; two goals) and Kate O'Rourke (Franklin, Mass.; goal, assist) both tallied two points.
UNH's other goal scorers were Libby Boland (Victor, N.Y.), Eva de Matteis (New Boston, N.H.), Erin Fagan (Clarksburg, Md.) and Regan Giblin (Chicago, Ill.).
In her collegiate debut, freshman goalkeeper Ellie Thomas (Needham, Mass.) made 11 saves.
Marist was led offensively by Jesse Manger (three goals) and Megan Morris made eight saves.
UNH first-year head coach Taylor Bastien led the Wildcats to victory in her debut at the helm.

FIRST QUARTER- Marist struck first on Catherine Windsor's goal at 12:54.
- Twenty-six seconds later, however, O'Rourke scored on a free position from the left hash on a low shot inside the far post to tie the score, 1-1,
- From the top of the 8-meter, Pavuk found de Matteis cutting to the front of the net and she converted to give the Wildcats their first lead of the season, 2-1, at 8:00.
- Chloe Birckhead leveled the score, 2-2, at 2:37 and Manger scored with 55 seconds on the clock to put Marist back in front, 3-2.
SECOND QUARTER- UNH outscored the Red Foxes 4-1 in the second quarter to take a 6-4 lead through 30 minutes.
- Fagan caught a pass low on the left side, attacked the net and scored to forge the third tie of the game, 3-3, at 14:05.
- That tally ignited a 4-0 run that gave the 'Cats a lead they would not relinquish.
- Keys, alone in front of the net, finished Connerty's feed from behind the net to give UNH a 4-3 lead on a player-up goal at 11:45.
- Boland caught a centering pass in front, turned and fired a shot into the net to extend the advantage to 5-3 at 7:32. O'Rourke, with the pass from the top of the 8m, was credited with the assist.
- Keys struck again at 3:21 to push the margin to 6-3.
- Manger scored her second of the game at 1:06 to end UNH's run and lift the visitors within 6-4.
THIRD QUARTER- UNH carried a player-up advantage into the third quarter and Connerty, once again from behind the net, found Keys in front to make it 7-4 at 14:23.
- That goal sparked a 5-0 run that pushed the margin to 11-4.
- From deep on the right wing, Pavuk drove to the front and scored on a high shot at 13:46.
- Pavuk, from behind the net, slipped a pass to Connerty in front and she scored on a low shot to advance the score to 9-4 at 12:58.
- Connerty-to-Keys combined for the third time in the game to give the 'Cats a 10-4 lead at 8:16.
- Gronda, on a free position from the left hash, advanced to the middle of the fan, pump-faked and then scored on a shot under the crossbar for an 11-4 advantage at 6:07.
- Manger's third goal of the game lifted Marist within six goals at 5:56.
- Thomas held the Red Foxes scoreless the final 20:56 of the game.
- Connerty scored on a one-timer in front from Pavuk's pass on the left wing to reestablish a seven-goal lead, 12-5, at 3:37.
- On a free position from the top of the 8m, Zwack took one step and scored on a low shot with k52 seconds on the clock to send the 'Cats into the fourth quarter with a 13-5 lead.
FOURTH QUARTER- Gronda advanced from the top of the 12m and fired a low shot from the 8m into the net to extend the advantage to 14-5 at 12:55.
- On a free position from the top of the circle, Giblin advanced to the middle and ripped a sidearm shot into the net at 10:05 to extend the margin to double digits.
- Neither team scored the rest of the way.
GAME NOTEBOOK- UNH recorded a 27-24 shot advantage that included 23-16 on goal and also had a 12-11 edge in draw controls
- Marist had a 16-15 edge in ground balls and committed one less turnover (13-14).
- .UNH was successful on 15 of 17 clear attempts and the Red Foxes were 12-for-15.
- The Wildcats scored on four of eight free-position shots; Marist was 0-for-2.
UNH NOTEBOOK- Connerty entered the game with 96 points and recorded her 100th with her third assist and fourth point of the game that gave UNH a 10-4 lead.
- She has 38 goals and 63 assists for 101 points in 43 games.
- Keys recorded her first career points with her four goals.
- Pavuk finished with personal bests in both assists and points.
- Gronda's two goals marked her first career multiple-goal and multiple-point game.
- O'Rourke recorded her first career multiple-point game.

- Fagan led all players with her career-high seven draw controls.
