Wildcats Fall in Granite State Matchup at Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 23-4 by Dartmouth College at Scully-Fahey Field on Tuesday afternoon.
Libby Boland (Victor, N.Y.), Piper Boudreau (Chelmsford, Mass.), Eva de Matteis (New Boston, N.H.) and Kate O'Rourke (Franklin, Mass.) each scored a goal for the Wildcats.
Freshman goalkeeper Ellie Thomas (Needham, Mass.) was credited with five saves.
Dartmouth was led offensively by Maja Desmond and Ryan Hapgood with four goals apiece; four other Big Green players also tallied four points. Starting goalie Gisele Todd stopped three of six shots on goal in 51:24. Riley Harrington was not credited with a save and allowed one goal the remaining 8:36.
UNH is now 1-2 and Dartmouth is 2-0.

FIRST QUARTER- de Matteis scored a player-up goal 46 seconds into the game when she caught the pass from Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) low on the right side, split a pair of defenders to get to the front of the net for the goal.
- Dartmouth scored seven consecutive goals to build a 7-1 lead at 3:26.
- Boland drove from the top of the 12-meter and fired a shot from the 8m inside the left post to lift the Wildcats within 7-2 at 2:29.
- The Big Green scored a pair of goals in the last 84 seconds to extend the advantage to 9-2 through 15 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER- The home team began the second quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 14-2 lead at 4:01.
- O'Rourke was awarded a free position on the top-left side of the fan. She was knocked to the ground by a defender as she approached the front of the net. Parallel to the turf and only inches from hitting that turf, O'Rourke scored on a low shot at 1:36.
- The Big Green scored with three seconds on the clock to take a 15-3 lead into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER- Dartmouth scored all six goals of the third quarter to extend the margin to 21-3.
FOURTH QUARTER- Boland's shot from the right side hit the post but Boudreau caught the ball off the rebound and fired a shot into the open net with 1:53 remaining to close the scoring.
UNH NOTEBOOK- de Matteis had a team-high two ground balls.
- She and O'Rourke tied for the team lead with two draw controls.
- Four 'Cats – de Matteis, Boudreau, Carly Ross (Annapolis, Md.) and Sarah Zwack (Weston, Conn.) – each recorded one caused turnover.
- It was the second goal of the season for all four Wildcats.
- This was the first time in three games that Thomas did not finish with 10+ saves.
GAME NOTEBOOK- Dartmouth finished with the edge in shots (34-11), shots on goal (28-7), draw controls (25-5) and ground balls (11-6).
- Turnovers were even at 16.
- UNH scored on 1 of 2 free-position shots while DC was 5-for-6.
- The 'Cats were successful on 10 of 15 clear attempts and the home team was 12 of 15.
