DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire skiing program has named Brandon Herhusky as its new Nordic assistant coach.
"I am very excited to have Brandon joining our team here at UNH," said director of skiing and Nordic head coach Shane MacDowell. "With Brandon's previous work with other top Division I programs, he knows the importance of the student-athlete balance and what it takes to get the most out of each athlete. Through this strong background and experience, he will help our team continue to grow and succeed."
Herhusky has spent the last two seasons as the Nordic assistant coach at Vermont. He helped lead the Catamounts to a fourth-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Championships. Prior to his time at Vermont, Herhusky was an assistant coach at Harvard for the 2021-2022 season.
In May of 2023, Herhusky was named the head coach of Mansfield Nordic Club University as he led the MNCU Summer collegiate training group, consisting of 17 top Eastern collegiate Nordic skiers. He was also the Under-18 coach and wax tech for the U.S. National Team in Feb. of 2023 in Jyvaskyla, Finland.
Herhusky began his coaching career in 2019 serving on the Far West Junior National coaching staff. After two years with the junior national team, he returned to his alma mater, Sugar Bowl Academy (SBA), to begin coaching full time. He served as the head coach of the U12/U14 age group at SBA while serving as an assistant coach for the high school academy. He was the program coordinator/coach for the Sugar Bowl Academy Summer Collegiate Program which included four NCAA All American skiers and a U.S. National Team member among his athletes.
Herhusky was a member of the Nordic ski team and graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2021.
