Hagan Stops 12 Shots in 18-10 Loss to UMass Lowell

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior goalkeeper Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) matched her season high of 12 saves but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was upended 18-10 by UMass Lowell at Tucker Field on Saturday afternoon.
Grad students Grace Curran (North Salem, N.Y.) and Izzy Holmes (Seattle, Wash.) led the Wildcats with three goals apiece. Curran also had an assist for a team-high four points.
UMass Lowell was led offensively by Grace Lydon and Macy Shultz, both of whom recorded four goals and an assist. Jade Catlin also tallied five points with three goals and two assists. Goalie Alexa Kuhn was credited with four saves.
UNH is now 2-9 overall and 0-3 in America East. UML is 10-3, 1-2.

FIRST QUARTER
- UMass Lowell recorded a 12-6 shot advantage in the opening 15 minutes to build a 6-3 lead.
- UNH struck first on Holmes' free-position goal at 13:55, but the River Hawks answered with three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead at 7:53.
- Holmes scored back-to-back goals at 6:07 and 3:16 to level the score, 3-3.
- UML scored three goals in the last two minutes of the quarter to surge ahead 6-3.
SECOND QUARTER
- The visitors generated a 13-7 shot advantage in the second quarter and outscored New Hampshire 3-2 to take a 9-5 lead into halftime.
- Curran finished a feed from Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) to lift UNH within 6-4 at 11:25.
- UMass Lowell extended the advantage to 8-4 on goals by Catlin at 9:45 and Lydon at 4:54.
- Curran struck again on a free position at 3:52 but Lydon scored her third goal of the game one minute later to advance the score to 9-5.
THIRD QUARTER
- Shots were even at eight but UML had a 4-2 edge in goals to build a 13-7 lead.
- Shultz's goal pushed the margin to 10-5 at 12:09.
- On a free position from the left hash, Katie Taranto (Brewster, N.Y.) charged toward the near post and then advanced across the top of the goalie crease before scoring to trim the deficit to 10-6 at 11:04.
- The River Hawks scored at 10:04 and 8:04 to build a 12-6 lead.
- Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.) converted Curran's pass into a goal at 4:39 to lift the 'Cats within 12-7.
- Shultz struck again at 2:09 to reestablish a six-goal cushion.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UMass Lowell led by as many as nine goals – twice – in the fourth quarter.
- The River Hawks scored the first three goals of the quarter to take a 16-7 lead at 10:31.
- Olivia O'Connor (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored a free-position goal at 8:10 and Dunn set up Curran for the second time in the game at 7:07 to narrow the gap to 16-9.
- UML scored consecutive goals to take an 18-9 lead at 1:56.
- MacEachern's free-position goal capped the scoring with 43 seconds remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UMass Lowell finished with a 43-27 shot advantage that included 30-14 on goal.
- The visitors also had a 22-10 edge in draw controls and committed two less turnovers (12-14).
- UNH had a 14-11 edge in ground balls.
- UNH scored on 6 of 9 free-position shots while UML converted on 4 of 8.
- The Wildcats were 16-for-18 on clear attempts and the visitors were 13 of 15.
- New Hampshire was whistled for three green cards and four yellow cards. The River Hawks were issued five cards – four green and one yellow.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Hagan recorded double-digit saves for the second consecutive game and fifth time this season. She also made 12 stops Feb. 17 against Detroit Mercy. Hagan has made a career-high 13 saves twice.
- Curran finished with three goals and four points – both season highs – for the second consecutive game.
- Holmes scored a season-high three goals and the three points matched her season high.
- Dunn tied her season high of two assists.
- Ava Schroeder led the Wildcats with three ground balls.
- MacEachern finished the game with two goals, two ground balls, a caused turnover and team-high five draw controls.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 7-2 lifetime record against UMass Lowell.
