Five Former UNH Wildcats Set to Start Quest for Stanley Cup

Seven ‘Cats played in the NHL regular season.
DURHAM, N.H. – Five former University of New Hampshire men's hockey players will compete in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Defenseman Brett Pesce (2012-15) and the Carolina Hurricanes will take on the New York Islanders on Saturday, April 20 at 5 p.m. on TBS. He played in 70 regular season games this season with three goals and 10 assists for 13 points. This is Pesce's ninth season with the Carolina Hurricanes. For his career, he has played in 627 games, scoring 39 goals and recording 159 assists for 198 points. Pesce has played in 55 playoff games with a total of five goals and 15 assists.
Then at 8 p.m. on NESN and TBS, forward James van Riemsdyk (2007-09) and the Bruins will play the Toronto Maple Leafs. He reached a milestone of playing in 1,000 career NHL games this season. Throughout his career he has 311 goals, 318 assists, totaling 629 points between playing with the Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs. He had 11 goals and 27 assists for 38 points on the season with the Bruins. van Riemsdyk has played in 71 playoff games, tallying 20 goals and 11 assists for 31 points. This is his 15th NHL season.
On Sunday, April 21, defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk (2011-14) and the Washington Capitals will meet the New York Rangers on ESPN at 3 p.m. He has played in 70 games this season and has tallied 14 assists. He has recorded 24 goals and 102 assists for 126 points over his career. He has played 601 games with the Chicago Blackhawks, the Carolina Hurricanes and the Washington Capitals. van Riemsdyk has appeared in 32 playoff games, recording two goals and two assists for four points. This is his 10th NHL season as he won the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2015.
Also on Sunday, goalie Casey DeSmith (2011-14) and the Vancouver Canucks will matchup with the Nashville Predators at 10 p.m. on ESPN. He went 12-9-6 with one shutout in his first season with Vancouver after playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins for the last five seasons. For his career, he has a 2.82 goals against average and a .909 save percentage with a 70-53-21 record.
Then on Monday, April 22, Warren Foegele (2014-15) and the Edmonton Oilers will start a first-round series with the LA Kings at 10 p.m. on ESPN2. He is currently in his third season with the Oilers after spending the first four seasons of his career with the Carolina Hurricanes. Foegele recorded 20 goals and 21 assists for 41 points this season. Foegele has played in 431 NHL games, tallying 80 goals and 83 assists for 163 points. He has appeared in 58 playoff games, recording nine goals and seven assists for 16 points.
A total of seven former Wildcats played in the NHL this season. Angus Crookshank (2018-21) made his NHL debut this season with the Ottawa Senators. He played in 13 games, recording two goals and one assist for three points.
Andrew Poturalski (2014-16) played in two games this season with the Seattle Kraken. He previously appeared in two seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes posting two assists for two points.
