Dunn Records 100th Career Point in 16-6 Loss at Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Grad student Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) recorded three points, including the 100th of her career, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 16-6 by Canisius University at the Demske Sports Complex on Saturday.
Dunn recorded her 100th career point with the first of her three points Saturday. She now has 62 goals and 40 assists for a total of 102 points.
Grace Curran (North Salem, N.Y.), Julia Gronda (Pompton Plains, N.J.), Izzy Holmes (Seattle, Wash.) and Hannah McCarthy (Bedford, N.H.) each scored a goal for UNH. Goalkeeper Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) was credited with six saves.
Canisius was led offensively by Megan Previdi (four goals, one assist) and Paige Stachura (four goals). Jody Chu made six saves.
UNH is now 2-5 overall and Canisius is 5-1.

FIRST QUARTER
- Cansius recorded a 8-4 shot advantage to build a 4-2 lead in the opening 15 minutes.
- UNH struck first at 12:04 of the first quarter when Dunn, on the right wing, found Curran cutting down the fan for the goal and Dunn's 100th career point.
- The Golden Griffins scored back-to-back goals at 11:18 and 9:06 to take a 2-1 lead.
- Dunn converted a free position from the right hash into a goal to tie the score, 2-2, at 6:51.
- Previdi put the home team back in front, 3-2, at 6:05 and struck again at 2:44.
SECOND QUARTER
- Canisius generated a 14-4 shot advantage in the second quarter to outscore the 'Cats 5-1 in the quarter and extend the advantage to 9-3 heading into halftime.
- The Golden Griffins scored the first three goals of the quarter to extend the run to five consecutive goals and lead to 7-2.
- A Rose Pavuk (York, Maine) free-position shot from the top of the 8-meter rang off the crossbar at 8:44 to keep the margin at five goals.
- Dunn scored another free-position goal at 6:56 to trim the deficit to 7-3.
- Canisius scored goals 51 seconds apart to build a 9-3 lead at 3:41.
THIRD QUARTER
- New Hampshire outshot the hosts 7-3 in the third quarter but Canisius outscored the Wildcats 3-1 to push the margin to 12-4.
- McCarthy's free-position goal lifted the 'Cats within 7-4 at 12:03.
- The Golden Griffins scored at 7:49, 5:56 and 1:05 to take a 12-4 lead.
FOURTH QUARTER
- The home team had a 7-5 shot advantage and 4-2 edge in goals in the final 15 minutes.
- Canisius took a double-digit lead, 14-4, at 8:20 and extended the advantage to 16-4 at 4:54.
- Gronda and Holmes scored unassisted goals at 3:20 and 17 seconds, respectively, to close the scoring.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Canisius finished with the edge in shots (32-20), shots on goal (22-12) and draw controls (13-12).
- The Griffs also committed fewer turnovers (16-19).
- UNH had an 18-17 advantage in ground balls.
- The Wildcats were successful on 14 of 18 clear attempts while Canisius was 16-for-21.
- UNH scored on 3 of 7 free-position shots and the Golden Griffins were 2-for-3.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Dunn now has 102 career points, which leads all active Wildcats. The 60 goals are tied for second among active 'Cats and 42 assists ranks second.
- Gronda scored her first career goal and it also marked her first point.
- Jesslyn Hounchell (Cornwall, Vt.) and Olivia O'Connor (Hopkinton, Mass.) tied for the team lead with three ground balls.
- O'Connor was also credited with a team-high three caused turnovers and tied Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.) with a team-high four draw controls.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- This was the first meeting between the New Hampshire and Canisius women's lacrosse programs.
