Alex Gagne Named Hockey East Third Team All-Star

AMESBURY, Mass. – University of New Hampshire junior captain Alex Gagne (Bedford, N.H.) has earned Hockey East Third Team All-Star honors as announced by the league. Gagne was also the runner-up for the Best Defensive Defenseman Award that was won by Cade Webber of Boston University.
This is the first time in his career Gagne has been named a Hockey East All-Star. This season he was named the Hockey East Army ROTC Defender of the Week twice earning the accolade on Jan. 8 and Feb. 19.
Gagne has played in all 35 games this season with one goal and 13 assists for 14 points. His 13 assists and 14 points are both the best of his career. He leads the team with 69 blocks and a +14 plus/minus. He ranks third in Hockey East and is tied for 13th in the nation in blocks.
Gagne, who was selected in the sixth round (192nd overall) in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning, has appeared in 103 games with three goals, 28 assists, 31 points and 178 blocks. He has been named the Hockey East Defender of the Week three times (2/19/23, 1/8/24 & 12/12/22) and the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week once (2/21/22).

The No. 6 seed and No. 17 nationally-ranked Wildcats (20-14-1, 12-11-1 Hockey East) will play No. 3 seed and No. 8 nationally-ranked Maine (22-10-2, 14-9-1 Hockey East) in the Quarterfinals of the Hockey East Tournament on Saturday, March 16 on ESPN+ at 7 p.m. at Alfond Arena in the Border Battle presented by Buffalo Wild Wings. The Wildcats went 2-1-0 versus Maine in the regular season as UNH fell in Orono, 5-2, on Dec. 1, but the Wildcats then swept the Black Bears by scores of 6-2 and 5-2 in Durham on Feb. 16-17.
