MacEachern Records Four Points in 18-14 Loss at BU

BOSTON – Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.), Hannah McCarthy (Bedford, N.H.) and Katie Taranto (Brewster, N.Y.) scored three goals each but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was upended 18-14 by Boston University at Nickerson Field on Wednesday.
MacEachern was also credited with an assist to finish with a team-high four points. Grace Curran (North Salem, N.Y.) scored two goals and Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) also recorded two points with a goal and an assist.
Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) and Erin Fagan (Clarksburg, Md.) scored UNH's other goals.

FIRST QUARTER
- McCarthy scored on a free-position shot to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead at 13:38.
- After the Terriers tied the score, Connerty curled from behind the right post, hesitated and continued to the middle of the fan, where she fired a shot inside the left post to put UNH back in front, 2-1, at 12:35.
- On a free position, MacEachern immediately found Taranto, who drove to the right and shot under the crossbar to tie the score, 3-3, on a player-up goal at 1:12.
- The score was tied at 3 through 15 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- BU outscored the visitors 5-2 in the second quarter to take an 8-05 lead into halftime.
- Fagan forged the fourth tie of the game, 4-4, at 11:50. From the top-right of the fan, she stutter-stepped before beating her defender down the middle to score.
- Taranto's second goal of the game lifted the 'Cats within 8-05 at 4:35. From behind the net, she curled around the left post to the middle of the fan for the score.
THIRD QUARTER
- The Terriers inched ahead to a 12-7 lead through 45 minutes with a 4-2 scoring edge in the third quarter.
- On a free position from the left side with two seconds on the shot clock, Dunn immediately pass the ball to Curran at the near post and she scored to trim the deficit to 12-6 at 7:10.
- McCarthy advanced down the middle of the fan and scored inside the left post for UNH's seventh goal of the game.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UNH closed the game on a 7-1 run to cut into a double-digit deficit, but the Wildcats' comeback ran out of time.
- Curran's second goal of the game, this time on a free position down the middle, trimmed the deficit to single digits, 17-8.
- McCarthy split a pair of defenders down the middle of the fan for her third goal of the game at 4:42.
- MacEachern scored 14 seconds later when she drove on a free position from the top-right to the top of the crease.
- Taranto converted another free position into her third goal of the game to lift UNH within 17-11 at 2:59.
- MacEachern scored a free-position goal 21 seconds later.
- BU quelled the rally by winning the ensuing draw control and using almost the entire 90-second shot clock before scoring to take an 18-12 lead.
- UNH would not go quietly, however, as Dunn corralled a loose ball at the top-right of the fan and scored from the top of the fan at 1:01.
- MacEachern scored her third goal of the game – all on free positions – with 15.2 seconds remaining to cap the scoring.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Connerty has UNH's longest active point streak of 19 games.
- Taranto extended her goal and point streaks to 16 games. She has a team-high eight goals this season.
- McCarthy has scored three goals each of her first two games as a UNH Wildcat.
- Fagan has scored a goal each of her first two games as a collegian.
- Dunn has tallied a goal and an assist in both games this season.
- Curran has recorded two points each of the first two games.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 15-28 lifetime record against BU.
- The Wildcats had won the previous meeting, 13-10, at Nickerson Field in 2022.
