DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire women's soccer Head Coach Steve Welham has announced the addition of freshman forward Lydia Poulin (West Hartford, Conn.) to the Wildcat roster. Poulin will join UNH starting with the Spring 2024 season and becomes the first "gray shirt" in UNH Women's Soccer history.
"We are so excited to have Lydia join us early. She has excelled in high school both on the field and in the classroom. Her prowess in the academic setting has allowed her the rare opportunity to start her athletic and academic career early. On the field Lydia is an athletic force; power, speed, aggression, and goal scoring ability are key attributes to her game. We are looking forward to seeing her acclimate to our team early and feature in our spring matches," said Coach Welham.
The West Hartford native attended Hall High School and Miss Porter's School in Farmington. At Miss Porter's she played soccer along with basketball and she ran track. Aside from competing with her high school soccer team, Poulin was a part of Farmington Sports Arena Football Club, a top ECNL club in New England.
In high school, Poulin was a two-time All-Conference Selection, four-time All-State Selection, an All-New England Honorable Mention her junior year and an All-New England Selection her senior year. She was also selected to the Senior Bowl in her final year. During her HS career she scored 51 goals. Off the pitch, Poulin was an honors student.
At UNH, Poulin will major in biology in the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture.
