MacEachern Scores Five Goals in 16-13 Loss at Vermont

Mackenzie MacEachern Records 50th Career Goal on Last of Five Tallies at UVM
BURLINGTON, Vt. – Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.) scored five goals, including the 50th of her career, for the University of New Hampshire women's women's lacrosse team but the University of Vermont rallied for a 16-13 victory Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field.
MacEachern scored her 50th career goal with the last of her five tallies, which matched her personal best. She was also credited with an assist to finish with a season-high six points.
Katie Taranto (Brewster, N.Y.) and Grace Curran (North Salem, N.Y.) also scored multiple goals with three and two, respectively. Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) and Rose Pavuk (York, Maine) both had a goal and an assist.
Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) matched her career high of 13 saves, including five in the first quarter, and was also credited with two ground balls.
The Catamounts were led by Ava Vasile (five goals, two assists) and Jane Trauger (four goals, one assist). Sophie McLaughlin was credited with eight saves.
UNH moves to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in America East. UVM ended the game on a 4-0 run in the last 10 minutes to improve to 5-6, 2-2.

FIRST QUARTER
- The score was level 3-3 through 15 minutes.
- Vasile gave the Catamounts an early 1-0 lead with a goal 30 seconds into the game.
- UNH rallied to take a 2-1 lead on goals by Dunn and MacEachern at 12:18 and 11:11, respectively. Dunn scored from the right wing on a low shot inside the near post and MacEachern netted a woman-up goal on a drive down the middle of the fan.
- UVM went back in front, 3-2, on goals by McKenzie Ballard at 7:42 and Vasile at 3:44.
- Sydney Sventy (Lumberton, N.J.) tied the score, 3-3, at 3:02 on a shot inside the near post from the right side.
SECOND QUARTER
- New Hampshire outscored the home 'Cats 4-3 in the second quarter despite UVM's 8-5 shot advantage.
- UNH called time out at 8:52 and Taranto scored on a low shot from inside the top of the 8-meter to give the Wildcats a 4-3 lead at 8:35.
- Curran finished MacEachern's feed for a goal ant 5-3 advantage at 6:29.
- Lily Trainor's tally trimmed the deficit to 5-4 at 13:20.
- Off a free position, Pavuk slipped a pass to MacEachern in front for a goal and 6-4 lead at 1:58. MacEachern sped down the middle of the fan to strike again 38 seconds later to give the Wildcats their largest lead of the game – three goals – at 7-4.
- Vermont answered with goals at 1:07 and 27 seconds to close within 7-6 before halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
- New Hampshire once again outscored the hosts 4-3 in the third quarter.
- Kendall Traveis needed just 11 seconds to tie the score, 7-7.
- The Wildcats regained the lead, 8-7, at 9:11 when Pavuk corralled a ground ball to the left of the goal, rolled to the front and scored on a low shot.
- UNH built a 9-7 advantage at 6:42. From the top of the crease, Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) slipped a pass in front to Curran, who stepped to her right and fired a sidearm shot into the goal.
- UVM trimmed the margin to 9-8 at 5:36.
- The Wildcats reestablished a two-goal cushion, 10-8, at 4:20. On a free position from the top of the 8-meter, Taranto advanced to the right and fired a low shot across the circle inside the left post.
- Ballard struck again with 55 seconds on the clock to close within 10-9.
- Hagan denied Vasile at the right doorstep with 36 seconds remaining, and at the other end of the field Dunn set up MacEachern for her fourth goal of the game with 4.2 seconds left.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Vermont outscored UNH 7-2 with an 11-5 shot advantage in the final 15 minutes.
- UVM scored goals at 14:52, 13:53 and 12:13 to go in front, 12-11, for the first time since holding a 3-2 lead late in the first quarter.
- Taranto scored a highlight reel goal – she split a double team on the left wing with a 360-degree spin and stepped over a fallen defender and fired a shot inside the near post – to tie the score, 12-12, at 11:24.
- From the top of the 8-meter, MacEachern drove and ripped a low shot inside the left post to score her 50th career goal and give New Hampshire a 13-12 lead at 10:24.
- Trauger scored the game-tying goal at 9:40 and go-ahead tally at 5:40 to give the Catamounts a lead they would not relinquish.
- Ciera Licare extended the lead to 15-13 at 4:57 and Vasile closed the scoring at 3:33.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Vermont finished with the edge in shots (37-26), shots on goal (29-21), ground balls (23-9), draw controls (17-16) and turnovers (10-15).
- UNH was 17-for-21 on clear attempts while the Catamounts were 16 of 18.
- The Wildcats scored on 2 of 7 free-position shots while UVM went 3-for-8.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- MacEachern's five goals matched her best established last season vs. Bryant University. She also had four draw controls, one ground ball and a caused turnover.
- Hagan recorded 13 saves earlier this season against Binghamton University.
- Pavuk's assist was the first of her career; her two points matched her best established at Dartmouth College.
- Emma Alpaugh (Darien, Conn.) finished with five draw controls, one ground ball and a caused turnover.
- Olivia O'Connor (Hopkinton, Mass.) also had five draw controls.
- Connerty extended her point streak to 12 games. She is the only Wildcat who has recorded a point all 10 games this season.
