Taranto Records Four Goals and 50th Career Point in 16-6 Win vs. CCSU

DURHAM, N.H. – Katie Taranto (Brewster, N.Y.) scored a game-high four goals to lead the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Tuesday afternoon's 16-6 non-conference victory against Central Connecticut State University at Wildcat Stadium.
Grace Curran (North Salem, N.Y.) recorded three points with two goals and one assist. Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.), Izzy Holmes (Seattle, Wash.) and Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.) all scored two goals. Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) also tallied two points with a goal and an assist.
Starting UNH goalie Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) made three saves and allowed four goals through three quarters to earn the win. Danielle Martineau (Gilford, N.H.) made one save on three shots on goal in the fourth quarter.
Olivia Gianakos led the CCSU offense with two goals and an assist while Adrianna Richards recorded 14 saves.
UNH won its second consecutive game to improve to 5-7 overall and 3-1 at home. The Blue Devils are now 3-10 overall.

Morgan's Message strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. The goal is to expand the dialogue on mental health by normalizing conversations, empowering those who suffer in silence, and supporting those who feel alone.

FIRST QUARTER
- UNH led 5-3 at the end of the first quarter.
- Curran scored on a free position 44 seconds into the game for her 26th of the season to open the scoring.
- Gianakos struck at 13:15 to even the score at 1-1.
- The 'Cats pulled back in front, 2-1, with a goal from Taranto at 11:58.
- CCSU's Brieanna Bernier answered at 8:34 to make the score 2-2.
- The Wildcats regained the lead, 3-2, at 7:00 when Curran took the ball from behind the net and went top shelf for her second goal of the game.
- Talie Richardson evened the score at 3-3 with 2:21 left in the quarter.
- Rose Pavuk (York, Maine) scored her fifth goal of the season at 1:06 to give the Wildcats the lead once again, as she finished a feed from Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) across the goalie crease to the left post.
- With two seconds left in the quarter, Izzy Holmes (Seattle, Wash.) ripped a shot into the bottom left to give the 'Cats a 5-3 lead.
SECOND QUARTER
- In the second quarter, the Wildcats outscored CCSU 4-1 to build a 9-4 lead heading into halftime.
- Taranto drove from the top of the 8-meter and shot to the bottom-left corner for her second of the game at 14:19, which extended the Wildcats' lead to 6-3.
- With her first goal of the game and extending her point streak to 14 games, Connerty extended UNH's advantage to 7-3.
- MacEachern beat a double team down the middle of the fan to score her first of the game and give the Wildcats an 8-3 lead at 7:19.
- Bernier put the Blue Devils on the board in the second quarter with her second of the game to cut the deficit to 8-4.
- With 53 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Dunn scored her second goal of the game to push the advantage to five goals for the Wildcats. Audrey Mirak (Concord, Mass.) earned the assist with a pass from a free position on the left wing down low to Dunn.
THIRD QUARTER
- The 'Cats outscored the Blue Devils 4-0 in the third quarter to extend the lead to 13-4.
- With her second of the game, Connerty extended the Wildcats' lead to 10-4 with a goal in the middle of the fan.
- UNH pushed the margin to 11-4 with Taranto's third of the game, an unassisted goal, at 10:01.
- MacEachern sprinted from behind the net, faked the initial shot and then placed a shot into the top-right corner for her second goal of the game to make the score 12-4 at 9:18.
- After splitting the defense and taking the ball through the middle, Taranto deposited her fourth goal of the game with four seconds remaining to give the Wildcats a 13-4 lead.
FOURTH QUARTER
- The Blue Devils opened the scoring of the final quarter on a Lauren Valluzzi's goal from Gianakos at 13:34 on the player-up.
- Kate O'Rourke (Franklin, Mass.) netted her first of the game and second of the season on a free position at 11:42 to extend the cushion to 14-5.
- From the left wing, Jordan Davis (Redondo Beach, Calif.) dodged her defender and took it to the front of the net to rip a shot past Richards to tally her first goal of the season and give New Hampshire a double-digit lead, 15-5.
- Holmes took her defender down the right side and scored top right for her second goal of the game at 4:30 to extend UNH's advantage to 16-5.
- Gianakos scored her second of the game at 1:39 to close the scoring.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire recorded 36 shots in the win while Central Connecticut recorded 17.
- UNH led in shots on goal (30-10).
- The 'Cats had the advantage in ground balls (19-8).
- Central Connecticut recorded more draw controls (18-7).
