Curran Scores Three Goals in 16-11 Loss at UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. – Grace Curran (North Salem, N.Y.) and Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.) recorded three points apiece but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 16-11 by UAlbany at John Fallon Field on Saturday.
Curran scored a team-high three goals while MacEachern finished with two goals and an assist. Katie Taranto (Brewster, N.Y.) and Sydney Sventy (Lumberton, N,J.) both scored two goals. Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.; one goal, one assist) and Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.; two assists) also tallied two points apiece.
Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) was credited with four saves.
UAlbany was led by Katie Pascale and Sarah Falk with five goals apiece. Aislinn Sweeney made six saves.
UNH, which entered the game on a two-game winning streak, is now 5-8 overall and 2-3 in America East. UAlbany improved to 9-6, 5-0.

FIRST QUARTER
- Falk scored at 12:57 and 7:50 to give the Great Danes a 2-0 lead.
- Pascale extended the advantage to three goals at 6:56.
- In transition, MacEachern raced down the right wing and found Curran in the middle of the fan for a goal that trimmed the deficit to 3-1 at 4:37.
- UAlbany ended the quarter on a 3-0 run to extend the advantage to 6-1.
SECOND QUARTER
- Both teams scored twice in the second quarter to advance the score to 8-3.
- The Great Danes struck at 14:51 and 11:45 to build the largest lead of the game, 8-1.
- Curran corralled a loose ball in the middle of the fan and scored to trim the deficit to 8-2 at 5:44.
- From the right wing, Taranto split a pair of defenders and scored from in front to lift the 'Cats within 8-3 at 4:38.
THIRD QUARTER
- Both teams scored four goals in the third quarter to push the score to 12-7.
- Pascale scored a player-up goal at 14:48 to take a 9-3 lead.
- From the left wing, Dunn fed a pass to Connerty cutting down the middle of the fan to lift UNH within 9-4 at 13:07.
- Falk struck again 59 seconds later to reestablish a six-goal margin, 10-4.
- From behind the net, Dunn slipped a pass to the right post, where Curran scored her third goal of the game to make it 10-5 at 8:39.
- UAlbany scored goals 46 seconds apart to build a 12-5 lead at 7:10.
- Sventy answered with goals 34 seconds apart at 4:17 and 3:43 to once again pull the Wildcats within five goals, 12-7.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Both teams scored four goals in the final 15 minutes.
- UNH scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to extend the run to 4-0 and close within 12-9.
- McEachern scored on a free position from the top right to lift UNH within 12-8 at 11:37.
- She struck again at 9:07 – this time off Connerty's pass from behind the net – to trim the deficit to three goals.
- UAlbany scored consecutive goals 51 seconds apart, however, to build a 14-9 lead at 7:03.
- The Great Danes extended the advantage to 15-9 at 4:50.
- Taranto tallied her second goal of the game at 3:26 and Izzy Holmes (Seattle, Wash.) scored with 1;09 remaining to lift the 'Cats within 15-11.
- UAlbany closed the scoring with eight seconds on the clock.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire recorded a 27-23 shot advantage but UAlbany had a 20-17 edge in shots on goal.
- UNH committed fewer turnovers (11-19).
- The Great Danes finished with the edge in ground balls (15-13) and draw controls (19-12).
- UNH was successful on 13 of 15 clear attempts while UAlbany was 14-for-18,
- The 'Cats scored on 1 of 4 free-position shots; the Great Danes were 2-for-3.

- Taranto extended her goal streak to 12 games; she leads the team in goals (41) and points (45) this season.

- Emma Alpaugh (Darien, Conn.), Jesslyn Hounchell (Cornwall, Vt.) and Payton Maddaloni (Mattituck, N.Y.) tied for the team lead in ground balls with two apiece.
- Alpaugh tied Olivia O'Connor (Hopkinton, Mass.) with a team-high five draw controls.
- Curran, Maddaloni and Ava Schroeder (Niskayuna, N.Y.) were credited with two caused turnovers.
