Hagan Records Nine Saves in 12-9 Loss at Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore goalkeeper Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) tied her season high of nine saves but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 12-9 by Siena College at Hickey Field on Saturday afternoon.
Hagan made five saves in the third quarter to keep the Saints scoreless that period as part of a 24 minute, 45 second shutout streak. Katie Taranto (Brewster, N.Y.) led UNH's offense with three goals for three points. Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) scored two goals while both Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) and Grace Curran (North Salem, N.Y.) finished with a goal and an assist.
Izzy Holmes (Seattle, Wash.) and Olivia O'Connor (Hopkinton, Mass.) were UNH's other goal scorers. O'Connor also had a game-high six draw controls.
Siena was led offensively by Grace Dobrzynski and Kelly Logue with three goals and an assist apiece. Mary Soures netted three goals. Sabrina Krasner finished with 11 saves, four ground balls and a caused turnover.
UNH is now 1-4 and Siena improved to 4-2.

FIRST QUARTER
- From the goal line extended on the right wing, Connerty found O'Connor at the top-right of the 8-meter. She sliced down the fan and fired a shot for a goal and 1-0 lead at 13:17.
- Dobrzynski tied the score, 1-1 at 9:45 and Soures gave the Saints a 2-1 lead at 7:07.
- Soures struck at 1:08 to push the advantage to 3-1.
SECOND QUARTER
- From the left wing, Taranto dodged past a defender to the top of the crease and deposited a shot inside the right post to lift the Wildcats within 3-2 at 11:51.
- Siena responded with another 3-0 run, however, to push the margin to 6-2 at 7:11.
- Taranto, on a free position from the top-right, attacked the goal and fired a shot into the bottom-left corner at 6:32.
- Holmes caught the pass from Taranto at the top of the 12-meter, stepped to the left to beat a defender and ripped a shot to lift the 'Cats within 6-4 at 4:06.
- Soures and Logue scored 52 seconds apart to extend Siena's lead to 8-4 at 1:29.
- Curran rolled from behind the net to the left post and fired a no-look, over the right shoulder shot under the crossbar to pull UNH within 8-5 with 30 seconds on the clock.
THIRD QUARTER
- New Hampshire outscored the Saints 3-0 in the third quarter to pull even at 8.
- Taranto scored her second free-position goal of the game, this time from the top of the 8-meter, to lift the Wildcats within 8-6 at 8:02.
- Dunn beat a defender on the right wing and ripped a shot from six meters into the goal to trim the deficit to 8-7 at 6:08.
- Hagan denied Soures on a free position at 5:12 to keep the 'Cats within a goal.
- UNH called a timeout at 2:09 and Connerty – from Curran – scored to level the score, 8-8, at 1:47.
FOURTH QUARTER
- The Wildcats entered the fourth quarter in a woman-up situation and took advantage when Dunn scored her second of the game to give UNH a 9-8 lead at 13:45.
- Hagan made another big save, this time by turning aside Laura Bonomo, at 12:14 to maintain the one-goal lead.
- Siena, which had not trailed since 1-0, closed the game on a 4-0 run to rally for the win.
- Jordan Bentley scored on a free position to pull the Saints into a 9-9 tie at 6:44; it was Siena's first goal since 1:29 of the second quarter.
- Soures and Rebecca Gilhooley scored 31 seconds apart – at 4:54 and 4:23 – to quickly give the home team an 11-9 lead.
- Dobrzynski struck again at 2:06 to finalize the scoring.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Siena recorded the advantage in shots (37-25), shots on goal (21-20) and turnovers (11-14).
- UNH had a 14-11 edge in draw controls.
- The ground balls were even, 12-12.
- UNH went 14 of 18 on clear attempts while Siena was 17-for-18.
- The Wildcats scored on 2 of 6 free-position shots; the Saints were 3-for-4.

- Emma Magazu (Newtown, Conn.) led the 'Cats with three ground balls and was also credited with a caused turnover.
