Hagan Records Career-High 13 Saves in 12-7 Loss to Binghamton

DURHAM, N.H. – Katie Taranto (Brewster, N.Y.) led the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team with four goals, but UNH was defeated 12-7 by Binghamton University at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) finished with a career-high 13 saves and was credited with two ground balls.
Taranto finished with four goals and one assist to total five points with Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) following with two goals and Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) tallying two assists on Taranto's goals.
Izzy Holmes (Seattle, Wash.) scored UNH's other goal while Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.) and Grace Curran (North Salem, N.Y) both had one assist.
Binghamton was led by Isabella Meli (two goals, two assists), Kristen Scheidel (three goals) and Olivia Muscolino (two goals). Bearcats' goalie Emily Manning made four saves.
UNH is now 2-6 overall and 1-1 in America East while Binghamton is 7-4, 2-0.

FIRST QUARTER
- Binghamton led the quarter 2-1 with a 9-4 shot advantage.
- The Bearcats scored in the opening two minutes on Abigail Carroll's goal at 13:06.
- The home 'Cats reciprocated at 10:46 with a goal by Dunn to tie the score, 1-1.
- Scheidel scored at 4:59 to put Binghamton back in the lead, 2-1.
SECOND QUARTER
- Binghamton outscored UNH 5-3 with an 11-5 shot advantage in the second quarter.
- Dunn scored UNH's second goal from Curran's pass to tie the game 2-2 at 11:27.
- The Bearcats quickly responded by taking the lead on Meli's goal at 10:51 and Marisa Tancredi furthered the margin 4-2 at 8:44.
- Taranto closed the gap to 4-3 at 6:24 off an assist by Connerty.
- In a three-minute span, Binghamton scored three goals to extend its lead to 7-3 at 2:07.
- With 52 seconds on the clock, Taranto ended their streak by responding with a goal on a free position to lift the Wildcats within 7-4 heading into halftime.
THIRD QUARTER
- Binghamton kept the lead through the next 15 minutes by scoring three goals over UNH's two goals with a 9-3 shot advantage.
- Muscolino opened the second-half scoring at 13:27 to give the Bearcats an 8-4 lead.
- After a draw control by MacEachern, Taranto found Holmes in the middle of the fan and she scored a goal to close the margin to 8-5 at 12:57.
- The Bearcats scored two additional goals within three minutes of each other – at 9:58 and 7:16 – to push the advantage to 10-5.
- After a lull in the scoring, Taranto lifted the Wildcats within 10-6 off an assist by Connerty with 1:01 left in the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
- The Bearcats outscored UNH 2-1 in the fourth quarter with a shot advantage of 5-3.
- Binghamton had a goal waved off when Muscolino was issued a yellow card at 9:52, but the Wildcats did not score with the player-up advantage and the Bearcats advanced the score to 11-6 on Kenna Newman's goal at 7:32.
- Taranto scored her fourth goal of the game with the help of MacEachern to close the gap to 11-7 at 3:15.
- Meli scored the last goal of the game with 43 seconds left.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Binghamton had the edge in shots with 35 while UNH had 15; the Bearcats also finished with the advantage in shots on goals (24-11) as well as free position shots (5-3) and turnovers (9-17).
- Both teams were equal in ground balls with 15.
- Binghamton also had a slight advantaged for clear attempts (22-22) to the Wildcats (15-16).
- UNH had the edge in draw controls (12-11).
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Hagan surpassed her previous season high of nine saves and career high of 12 saves, which was set March 16, 2022 against Bryant University.
- Emma Alpaugh (Darien, Conn.) matched a personal best of three caused turnovers. She was also credited with three ground balls and three draw controls.
- Jesslyn Hounchell (Cornwall, Vt.) tallied a game-high four ground balls.
- In addition to her assist, MacEachern had five draw controls and two ground balls.
