DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team has announced its schedule for the 2022 season as the Wildcats will be looking to make their sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. UNH, which was ranked No. 9 in the final 2021 United Soccer Coaches National Poll, opens the season at four-time national champion Maryland on Thursday, Aug. 25.
UNH will take on four teams that played in the 2021 NCAA Tournament (Maryland, Florida International, Providence and Vermont). Providence (#16), Florida International (#18) and Maryland (#23) were all ranked in the final national poll of the 2021 season.
UNH will play a total of 16 games with eight at home including contests versus VCU, Florida International and UC Irvine all in Durham. UNH is 42-2-7 all-time at Wildcat Stadium, outscoring the opposition, 109-19.
"This is the strongest schedule we have played since my arrival in 2015," said head coach Marc Hubbard. "We challenge ourselves with four new opponents and an incredible pressure filled away opener. We drew record crowds last Fall in Wildcat Stadium and hopefully by hosting teams from California, Virginia and Florida up in the Granite State, we can make history again. Our team as currently constructed is ready to endure this journey and we look forward to setting ourselves up again for another deep run in the national tournament."
After taking on the Terrapins, the Wildcats return to Durham for the home-opener versus Boston University (Aug. 28). UNH then plays two more games at home versus VCU (Sept. 3) and Florida International (Sept. 10).
The Wildcats will then hit the road for a matchup with Providence (Sept. 13) featuring two teams that advanced to the Round of 16 last season.
After hosting UC Irvine (Sept. 16), the Wildcats start the America East season at first-year conference member Bryant (Sept. 24) and then conclude the month at Harvard (Sept. 27).
Three October games will be in Durham: UMBC (Oct. 1), Northeastern (Oct. 11) and Binghamton (Oct. 22), while the Wildcats play on the road against NJIT (Oct. 8), UAlbany (Oct. 15), Yale (Oct. 18) and Vermont (Oct. 28).
The regular season will conclude at Wildcat Stadium versus UMass Lowell on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
The first round of the America East Tournament will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5, followed by the semifinals on Wed., Nov. 9, and the championship on Sunday, Nov. 13.
The Wildcats went 17-2-2 (7-0-1 America East) during a historic 2021 season that featured program records for wins (17) and winning percentage (.857). UNH also earned its highest national ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Poll at No. 4 on Oct. 12, 2021.
The Wildcats advanced to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history, falling at No. 1 seed Oregon State, 1-0. UNH earned the No. 16 seed and received a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season and defeated North Carolina, 4-1, in the second round at Wildcat Stadium.
UNH led the nation with a .466 team goals against average. The Wildcats' .857 winning percentage was fifth in the country, while their 47 goals scored were ranked 10th.
