MacEachern Tallies Six Points in 20-14 Loss to UAlbany

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.) recorded six points but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 20-14 by UAlbany in Wednesday afternoon's America East matchup at Wildcat Stadium.
MacEachern finished with three goals and three assists to lead UNH in both assists and points; she also had a game-high three caused turnovers – which matched a career high – as well as five draw controls and two ground balls.
Classmate Kelsey MacCallum (Franklin, Mass.) scored a career- and team-high four goals for four points. Freshman Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) matched her personal bests in both goals (two) and points (four); she also had a team-high three ground balls to tie another career high. Senior captain Delaney Pratt (Lafayette, Colo.) scored three goals and matched her career high of six draw controls.
Senior goalkeeper Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.), who entered the game at the start of the second quarter with UNH trailing 8-2, made eight saves and was charged with the loss. Starting goalie Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) made one save.
UAlbany was led offensively by Katie Pascale (five goals, five assists), Ava Poupard (4g), Allie Maloney (3g, 1a) and Kathryn Sancilio (3g, 1a). Pascale also had eight draw controls. Katherine Chiarella was credited with 13 saves and two ground balls.
UNH, which had not played a game since a 12-6 victory on March 26, is now 6-5 overall and 1-1 in America East. UAlbany improved to 5-6, 3-0.

FIRST QUARTER
- UAlbany closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run to build an 8-2 lead.
- The Great Danes struck quickly on Poupard's free-position goal at 14:46.
- MacCallum responded with a goal on a free position to tie the score, 1-1, at 13:54.
- Pascale netted back-to-back goals at 12:56 and 11:47 to give the visitors a 3-1 advantage.
- Senior Emily Curtis (Walpole, Mass.) finished a feed from junior Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) to trim the deficit to 3-2 at 10:34.
- Sarah Falk ignited UAlbany's 5-0 spurt at 9:28 and Pascale, who set up the team's fifth and sixth goals, scored with five seconds on the clock to push the advantage to 8-2.
SECOND QUARTER
- UNH opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run to level the score, 8-8, before the Great Danes potted back-to-back goals to take a 10-8 lead into halftime.
- Pratt sparked the comeback with a free-position goal at 14:15 and MacEachern converted a free position into a goal 36 seconds later to lift the Wildcats within 8-4 at 13:39.
- Dunn set up Pratt's next goal at 11:11, then MacEachern struck at 8:49 to trim the margin to 8-6 at 8:09, which prompted UAlbany to call a timeout.
- MacEachern won the ensuing draw control, quickly advanced into the attack zone and set up MacCallum's goal at 8:00.
- Connerty then muscled past a defender and, from the front doorstep, placed a low shot into the cage to tie the score, 8-8, at 6:22.
- Maloney's second goal of the game put the Great Danes back on top at 2:41 and Pascale's fourth goal of the day with 10 seconds remaining extended the advantage to 10-8.
THIRD QUARTER
- New Hampshire netted the first three goals of the third quarter to take its first lead of the game, 11-10, at 11:39 but UAlbany ended the quarter on a 7-1 run to take a 17-12 lead through 45 minutes.
- Pratt converted MacEachern's pass in front into a goal and 10-9 score at 14:13.
- MacCallum scored consecutive goals at 13:43 and 11:39 to push the Wildcats into the lead.
- The Great Danes answered with three consecutive goals by Maloney (at 9:17), Pascale (8:15) and Sancilio (4:50) to surge back in front, 13-11.
- MacEachern's third goal lifted UNH within 13-12 at 3:37.
- The 'Cats would get no closer the rest of the game, however, as the visitors went on a 4-0 run in the last 2:10 of the third quarter to extend the margin to 17-12.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UAlbany held the Wildcats scoreless the final 10:11 of the game to secure the victory.
- For the third consecutive quarter, UNH struck first on Connerty's goal at 14:06 that advanced the score to 17-13.
- Poupard reestablished a five-goal lead, 18-13, at 11:26.
- Curtis netted her second goal of the game, this time off a feed from Connerty, at 10:11.
- Goals by Poupard at 6:53 and Teagan Canning at 1:47 closed the scoring.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UNH finished with a 36-35 shot advantage, but UAlbany had a 29-27 edge in shots on goal.
- The Great Danes also recorded the slight edge in both ground balls (20-18) and turnovers (14-15).
- The Wildcats had the 20-18 advantage in draw controls, but UAlbany had a 5-1 edge in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.
- UNH was nearly perfect in clear attempts (16 of 17), whereas the visitors were 17-for-21.
- UAlbany scored on 3 of 4 free-position shots; the 'Cat were 3-for-6 on free positions.
