Connerty Records Career-High Five Points in 14-12 Loss to Vermont on Senior Day

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) recorded a career-high five points but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was edged 14-12 by the University of Vermont at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Connerty matched her personal bests of both two goals and three assists to establish a career-high five points; she also tied for the team lead with two ground balls. Senior Emily Curtis (Walpole, Mass.) and Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.) both scored four goals.
Freshman goalie Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) was credited with nine saves.
Vermont was led offensively by Ava Vasile's seven points on six goals and one assist; she also had a game-high seven draw controls. Starting goalie Sophie McLaughlin played a total of 40:05 with three saves and eight goals allowed in two stints. Jackie Shipp, who entered the game at 12:59 of the second quarter and exited at 8:04 of the third, was credited with four saves.
There were five lead changes and seven ties as neither team led by more than two goals.
UNH is now 6-7 overall and 1-3 in America East. UVM improved to 10-3, 3-2.

FIRST QUARTER
- Curtis converted Connerty's pass into a player-up goal and 1-0 lead at 13:34.
- UVM responded with three consecutive goals – all by Vasile – to build a 3-1 advantage.
- UNH closed the quarter on a 3-0 run to regain the lead, 4-3.
- Connerty once again set up Curtis to trim the deficit to 3-2 at 4:02, then MacEachern scored unassisted goals 55 seconds apart to give the home team a4-3 lead at 1:05.
SECOND QUARTER
- Connerty's first goal of the game extended UNH's run to four consecutive goals and gave the home 'Cats a 5-3 lead at 12:59.
- Shipp entered in place of McLaughlin immediately after that score.
- UVM's Taylor Mullen scored the first and last goals of a 3-0 spurt to put the Catamounts back in front, 6-5, at 5:10.
- Curtis' third goal of the half – this time unassisted – knotted the score 6-6 at 4:36.
- Vermont's Danie Paterno scored a player-down goal with 32 seconds on the clock to send the visitors into halftime with a 7-6 lead.
THIRD QUARTER
- Dunn converted a free position into a goal at 13:35 to tie the score and then Connerty scored a free-position goal at 10:55 to put UNH back on top, 8-7.
- MacEachern's third unassisted goal of the day matched the Wildcats' largest lead – two goals – at 9-7 with 9:01 on the clock.
- Vermont closed the quarter on a 4-0 run, however, to hold an 11-9 lead through 45 minutes.
- McLaughlin reentered the game near the start of that run following Mullen's goal at 8:04 lifted UVM within 9-8.
FOURTH QUARTER
- Curtis scored her fourth goal of the game – this time on a free-position shot – at 13:44 to trim UNH's deficit to 11-10.
- Senior Delaney Pratt (Lafayette, Colo.) finished a feed from Connerty to tie the score, 11-11, at 12:12.
- Meghan O'Connor put the Catamounts back in front, 12-11, at 11:07 and Vasile struck again at 9:49 to push the margin to two goals.
- UVM won the ensuing draw control but lost possession at 8:47, and the Wildcats converted that turnover into a free-position goal by MacEachern at 7:32 to trim the deficit to 13-12.
- Vasilie's sixth goal reestablished a two-goal cushion, 14-12, at 5:00 and prompted UNH to call a timeout.
- Vermont once again controlled the draw, but junior Ava Schroeder (Niskayuna, N.Y.) caused a turnover and senior Meghan Doyle (Pittsford, N.Y.) collected the ground ball to give possession to New Hampshire.
- UVM was issued a yellow card at 2:42, but McLaughlin denied Pratt on the ensuing free-position shot.
- The Catamounts called time out at 1:48 and ran the shot clock to zero seconds with 1:01 remaining.
- Trailing by two goals, UNH advanced the ball into the attack zone but an errant pass resulted in a turnover that gave UVM possession with 22 seconds to play.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- Vermont finished with the advantage in shots (27-25), shots on goals (23-19) and ground balls (9-8).
- UNH had the edge in draw controls (15-14) – although UVM had the 5-2 edge in the fourth quarter – and turnovers (12-14).
- The Wildcats were successful on 15 of 17 clear attempts and the Catamounts went 14-for-15.
- UVM scored on 8 of 14 free-position shots, whereas New Hampshire was 4-for-8.
- Vermont was issued seven yellow cards in comparison to UNH's three. UVM scored one player-up goal and two player-down goals; The Wildcats netted four player-up goals.

- MacEachern and Pratt both extended their goal and point streaks to 11 games.
- Dunn has a 10-game point streak.
- Sophomore Payton Maddaloni (Mattitiuck, N.Y.) recorded a team- and career-high six draw controls in her first collegiate start.
- MacEachern and Pratt both had four draw controls.
- Senior Adena Rothbard (Newport Beach, Calif.) tied Connerty for the team lead with two ground balls.
SENIOR DAY
- New Hampshire celebrated Senior Day and recognized its eight seniors and one graduate student following the conclusion of the game.
- The nine Wildcats were: Abby Cranney (Amherst, N.H.), Curtis, Doyle, Gabby Masseur (Nashua, N.H.), Pratt, Lily Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.), Grace Purdy (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Rothbard and Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.).
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 33-10 lifetime record against Vermont but the Catamounts have won three straight in the series.
