Senior Captain Matches Career Highs of Five Ground Balls and Four Caused Turnovers
BOSTON – Sophomore Kelsey MacCallum (Franklin, Mass.) recorded a career-best five points to lead the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team to Wednesday afternoon's 13-10 victory against Boston University at Nickerson Field. Both the three goals and two assists were also personal bests for MacCallum.
Senior captain Meghan Doyle (Pittsford, N.Y.) matched her career highs in both ground balls (five) and caused turnovers (four), and also recorded her first career point with an assist.
Senior captain Delaney Pratt (Lafayette, Colo.) scored three goals and junior Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) also tallied three points with a goal and two assists. Freshman Allie Connerty (Norwell, Mass.) finished with a career-high three points on two goals and an assist.
Senior captain Lily Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.) ignited UNH's game-ending 4-0 run with consecutive goals at 8:43 and 6:24 of the fourth quarter.
Freshman goalkeeper Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) played the final 12:42 of the game to earn her first career victory; she surrendered one goal and was not credited with a save. Senior goalie Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.) made seven saves and exited the game when BU took its first lead of the game, 9-8, 2:18 into the fourth quarter.
BU was led offensively by Jennifer Barry (three goals, three assists) and Claire Gola (four goals). Reilly Agres was credited with seven saves.
UNH is now 2-0 on the road and 2-3 overall. BU moved to 0-5.
"Today was a big win for us," UNH first-year head coach Kacie Lewis said. "We stayed composed and were able to execute in a lot of pressure situations. Kelsey MacCallum has been a very consistent threat on offense for us and Delaney Pratt pulled off a hat trick today as well.
"Our defense came up with some huge plays that really shifted the momentum in our favor at big moments," Lewis added. "Meghan Doyle was a major factor with four caused turnovers in pivotal points of the game. I also have to give a shoutout to our sideline. Their energy is outrageous and one of my favorite parts of game day. Overall, I'm just really proud of how hard we battled as a team."
