MacCallum Records Three Points in 23-10 Loss to #25 UConn

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Kelsey MacCallum (Franklin, Mass.) recorded a team- and career-high three points but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 23-10 by 25th-ranked University of Connecticut in Sunday's matchup at Tucker Field.
MacCallum finished with a personal-best two goals and also had an assist. Junior Liv Dunn (Newbury, Mass.) was one of two other Wildcats who recorded at least two points as Dunn had two goals on four shots. Senior Abby Cranney (Amherst, N.H.) was the other 'Cat who recorded multiple points with two goals on three shots.
UNH starting goalkeeper senior Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.) recorded five saves and allowed seven goals in two stints that totaled 25 minutes; she was charged with the loss. Freshman goalie Maria Hagan (Downers Grove, Ill.) played a stretch of 35 minutes and recorded eight saves while allowing 16 goals.
UConn was led offensively by two players who had five goals each. Sydney Watson led the team with seven points by recording five goals and two assists, as well as a game-high 13 draw controls. Lia LaPrise had an assist in addition to five goals for a total of six points.
UConn starting goalie Landyn White made 10 saves and allowed nine goals through three quarters. Georgia Hoey stopped two of three shots on goal in the fourth quarter.
UNH is now 1-3 overall and UConn won its second consecutive game to improve to 3-1.

FIRST QUARTER
- Cranney's unassisted goal gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead 90 seconds into the game.
- MacCallum ended a stretch of four consecutive UConn goals by scoring at 10:31, and her second goal of the year lifted UNH within 4-2.
- The 'Cats changed goalies at that time with Hagan entering in place of Torres.
- Dunn scored her fourth goal of the season at 7:54 to make it a 6-3 game.
- Senior captain Delaney Pratt (Lafayette, Colo.) scored her third goal of the season and fourth goal of the game for the Wildcats at 1:17 to trim the deficit to 9-4.
- The Huskies led 10-4 and recorded a 16-8 shot advantage through 15 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- UNH scored the first two goals of the second quarter to close within four goals, but UConn closed the half on a 4-1 run to build a 14-7 halftime lead.
- Senior Emily Curtis (Walpole, Mass.) scored 55 seconds into the quarter for her fifth goal of the season and the fifth goal for the 'Cats in the game to make it 10-5.
- Dunn scored her second goal of the game – this time on a free-position shot – to lift New Hampshire within 10-6 at 9:50.
- UConn inched out to a 13-6 advantage with goals at 9:00, 7:20 and 3:52.
- Senior captain Lily Powell (Marcellus, N.Y.) scored in front of the net for her first goal of the season with 1:51 left in the half to make it 13-7.
- Watson's fourth goal of the half with 36 seconds on the clock sent the visitors into the locker room with a 14-7 lead.
- The Huskies outshot the Wildcats 23-16 in the first half but UNH had the 8-7 edge in the second quarter.
THIRD QUARTER
- Cranney cut down the middle of the fan to the front of the net and scored with two seconds on the shot clock to narrow the margin to 14-8 at 13:29.
- MacCallum's second unassisted goal of the game lifted the 'Cats within 14-9 at 11:34.
- UConn responded with a goal 24 seconds later, however, and closed the quarter on a 7-0 run to build a 21-9 advantage.
- Torres reentered the game when the visitors took a 20-9 lead at 6:06.
- The Huskies had an 11-5 shot advantage in the third with a 34-21 edge overall.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UUConn netted goals at 11:21 and 2:49 to extend the margin to 23-9.
- Sophomore Mackenzie MacEachern (Bedford, N.H.) scored off a feed from freshman Abby Hawkes (Amherst, N.H.) with 15 seconds left to close the scoring.
- The Huskies outscored UNH 2-1 in the fourth with a 6-3 edge in shots.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UConn finished with the edge in shots (40-24) and draw controls (27-8). The Huskies also committed one less turnover – 16 in comparison to UNH's 17.
- New Hampshire had a 16-15 advantage in ground balls.
- UConn went 13-for-16 on clears and UNH was 13 of 18.
- The Wildcats scored on 2 of 6 free-position shots; UConn was 2-for-3.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- Hagan finished with a career-high eight saves; she made three saves in her collegiate debut vs. Siena College on Feb. 12.
- Hawkes recorded her first career assist and point on UNH's fourth-quarter goal.
- Sophomore Jesslyn Hounchell (Manchester N.H.) led the team in ground balls with a career-high six. She was also credited with a caused turnover.
- Pratt tallied a team-high five draw controls.
