Grovom Scores Two Goals in Loss at UConn

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team scored the first 12 goals of the game en route to a 19-3 victory against the University of New Hampshire in Sunday afternoon's non-conference game at Morrone Stadium.
Senior Sabrina Grovom (San Marcos, Calif.) scored two goals and sophomore Izzy Holmes (Seattle, Wash.) netted UNH's other tally. Junior goalie Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.) was credited with 10 saves.
Lia LaPrise (two goals, five assists) and Sydney Watson (five goals, one assist) led UConn's attack. Starting goalie Landyn White stopped three of four shots in the first half for the win. Annie Carroll made three saves and allowed two goals in the second half.
UNH is 1-1 and UConn improves to 2-1.
FIRST HALF

- Watson scored 29 seconds into the game as the Huskies led wire-to-wire.
- UConn led 7-0 with 10 minutes elapsed.
- Holmes' second goal of the season made it 12-1 at 2:36 and that was the score at halftime.
SECOND HALF
- UConn netted the first three goals of the second half to extend the advantage to 15-1 at 16:50.
- Grovom scored back-to-back goals at 12:54 and 10:46.
- The Huskies tallied the last four goals of the game.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UConn recorded a 36-12 shot advantage that included 25-5 in the first half.
- The home team also had the edge in ground balls (20-14) and draw controls (18-6).
- UNH committed 16 turnovers in comparison to the Huskies' 13.
- The Wildcats had seven successful clears on 13 attempts. UConn was 9 of 13.

- Grovom has scored two goals in both games this season. She had a team-high three draw controls vs. UConn.
- Grad student Rylee Leonard (Coventry, R.I.) and sophomore Katie Taranto (Brewster, N.Y.) both recorded an assist.
- Senior Elizabeth Blanding (Pittsford, N.Y.) finished with a team-high three shots.
- In addition to 10 saves, Torres recorded a team-high four ground balls.
- Senior captain Tatum Benesh (Horseheads, N.Y.) and junior Meghan Doyle (Pittsford, N.Y.) both recorded two caused turnovers.
