THE STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
New Hampshire (6-11-1 overall, 6-11-1 Hockey East) and Providence split last weekend's home-and-home series in which both teams won on home ice. UNH prevailed 1-0 last Friday when Charli Kettyle scored with 36.4 seconds remaining in regulation. PC then fended off the Wildcats for a 5-4 win at Schneider Arena.
UNH's shutout streak ended at 186 minutes, 47 seconds when the Friars scored at 1:40 of the first period last Saturday. The loss ended the Wildcats' three-game winning streak.
The Wildcats had entered the game on a streak of three consecutive shutouts; prior to this season, the 'Cats had not accomplished that feat in more than a decade -- Oct. 29 & 30, 2010 vs. Niagara (1-0 and 2-0 wins) and Nov. 6 against Vermont (2-0 win).
Prior to last Friday's blanking of Providence, UNH did not yield a goal in a home-and-home sweep of Merrimack College on Jan. 22-23. UNH skated to a 3-0 win in Game 1 Friday at Lawler Rink and then upended the Warriors, 4-0, at the Whitt.
The 'Cats are 2-3-1 against nationally-ranked teams this season with a split vs. #8 Boston U. and #10 Providence, as well as an 0-1-1 mark against #3 Northeastern.
UNH is 3-2-0 the past five games, four of which have ended in a shutout (three wins, one loss).

BOUTILIER NAMED TO WATCH LIST FOR GOALIE OF THE YEAR AWARD
Ava Boutilier was named to the inaugural Watch List for the first ever Women's Hockey Goalie of the Year Award. The announcement was made Feb. 5 by the Women's Hockey Commissioners Association. The Women's HCA created this award to recognize the top female goalie in NCAA Division I hockey. This initial Watch List of 21 outstanding goalies will be pared down within the next two weeks by a committee of voters (consisting of coaches, administrators and media). The recipient will be announced in March during the NCAA Frozen Four.

SINCE THE LAST TIME WE MET
Northeastern University has reeled off nine consecutive wins since skating to a 2-2 tie vs. UNH at the Whittemore Center on Jan. 9. Seven of the wins have been by shutout, including each of the past six games as the Huskies have a shutout streak of 380 minutes, 7 seconds since Providence's goal at 19:53 of the second period on Jan. 22.
New Hampshire is 3-3-0 with three shutout wins and two shutout losses, as well as a 5-4 loss last Saturday at 10th-ranked Providence.
THIRTY-THREE PERCENT
UNH scored three goals in January's two-game home-and-home series against Northeastern. That accounts for one-third of the goals allowed by the Huskies this season. NU has allowed more than one goal just three times in 15 games; one of those was the 2-2 tie at New Hampshire on Jan. 9.
HOCKEY EAST ANNOUNCES TOURNEY AND SEEDING FORMATS
On Feb. 10, Hockey East announced that the 2021 championship tournament will be a single-elimination format with the higher seed hosting each game, and seeding will be determined by a newly-developed mathematical formula dubbed the Hockey East Power Index.
The tourney begins with two opening round games Feb. 24 with the No. 7 seed playing No. 10 and the No. 8-9 seeds facing off. All remaining teams will be reseeded before the Feb. 28 quarterfinals. Semifinals will take place March 3 and the championship game is March 6.
The HEPI takes into consideration the number of games played, wins and losses in regulation, overtime, and shootouts, and a team's home and away split. It then values wins and losses based on each team's strength of schedule and their opponents' strength of schedule, objectively, to rank the programs accordingly.
