Martinez Stands Tall as 'Cats Fall to No. 7 UConn 1-0

DURHAM, N.H. — The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey dropped a close one at home, falling to No. 7 University of Connecticut (19-6-2, 12-4-1 HEA) on Friday evening (Jan. 30) at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex, losing 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Neither team found the back of the net through the opening 20 minutes, keeping the 0-0 deadlock intact. Following the first period, UConn holds the edge on the shot chart, outshooting the 'Cats 13-6.
-UConn netted the lone goal of the game midway through the second period, when Megan Woodworth put away a loose puck on the power-play while in the slot to make it 1-0.
-With under a minute to go the 'Cats looked to grab the equalizer, but following a UConn challenge for goaltender interference, the score was wiped, keeping the 1-0 score in place.
-Neither team connected in third period, with the Huskies outshooting the 'Cats 8-4 to maintain the 1-0 lead for the win.

-On defense, two different players landed a block, paced by Callista Printz (Buffalo, N.Y.) with a pair.
-In net, Noemi Martinez (Glen Ridge, N.J.) closed her night in net denying 33-of-34 shots faced, good for a .971 save percentage.
