Blanding Scores Four Times in 15-9 Loss to Fairfield

DURHAM, N.H. – Elizabeth Blanding (Pittsford, N.Y.) matched her career high of four goals, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 15-9 by Fairfield University at Wildcat Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Blanding was the only Wildcat to record multiple points. UNH goalie Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.) was credited with eight saves and team-high four ground balls.

Fairfield was led offensively by Monika Sivilli, who tallied four points on three goals and an assist. Olivia Conquest made 12 saves.

UNH is now 1-3. Fairfield improved to 2-4.

- Blanding struck first at 25:34 when she drove down the right side of the fan and ripped a shot from five yards under the crossbar.
- Sabrina Grovom (San Marcos, Calif.) netted her first goal of the season 46 seconds later when her bounce shot from just inside the top of the fan went inside the right post.
- Sivilli converted a free position into a goal that lifted the Stags within 2-1 just 35 seconds later (at 24:13).
- Caroline Hernon (Hampton, N.H.) reestablished UNH's two-goal lead with an unassisted tally at 19:00.
- Conquest held the Wildcats scoreless the rest of the half, however, and Fairfield closed the half with six unanswered goals to build a 7-3 lead.
- Diana DeVita scored back-to-back goals 31 seconds apart – at 13:25 and 12:54 – to level the score at 3.
- Sivilli broke the tie at 7:02 and Dera followed with a free-position goal at 5:27.
- Sivilli scored her third goal of the half at 3:35, then Dera struck again with 43 seconds on the clock to close the first-half scoring.

- Maggie Fort finished Elizabeth Rowe's pass to push the Stags' goal streak to seven and give the visitors an 8-3 lead at 26:13.
- Blanding ended the run at 24:50 to lift UNH within 8-4. Katie Taranto (Brewster, N.Y.) cut in from the right wing and found Blanding slicing down the middle. Blanding deposited a shot inside the left post.
- Jillian Winwood potted a player-up goal to push the margin back to five goals, 9-4, at 20:42.
- On a free position from the left side, Ava Schroeder (Niskayuna, N.Y.) charged and fired a shot into the bottom-left corner for her first career goal at 19:42.
- Fairfield extended the advantage to 11-5 with goals at 18:24 and 16:46.
- Emily Curtis (Walpole, Mass.), on a free position from the right side, scored into the low, far corner at 16:06 to trim the deficit to 11-6.
- Blanding's third goal of the game – this time on a free position – lifted the 'Cats within 11-7 at 15:11.
- The Stags netted goals 44 seconds apart to take a 13-7 lead at 10:38.
- Julia Neyland (Boxborough, Mass.) made a reverse pivot on the right side of the fan and ripped a shot into the cage at 9:30.
- At the top of the fan, Blanding utilized a stutter-step at the top of the fan to get a step on the defender, then rifled the ball into the net at 5:45 to cut the margin to 13-9.
- Fairfield was whistled for its fourth yellow card of the game, making it a non-releasable foul, at 4:59. New Hampshire committed a turnover, however, and lost the player-up advantage with its fourth yellow card at 4:05.
- Kelly Horning scored a player-up free-position goal at 2:52 and Elizabeth Talluto closed the scoring with 58 seconds remaining.

- Taylor Dudek (Amherst, N.H.) and Michele Smith (Wantagh, N.Y.) were both credited with two caused turnovers. Dudek also corralled three ground balls to increase her team-leading season total to 12.
- In addition to her goal, Hernon had three ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover. For the season, she ranks first in caused turnovers (nine) and second in ground balls (11).
- Delaney Pratt (Lafayette, Colo.)Her finished with a team-high five draw controls.
- Blanding extended her goal streak to five games (dating back to last season).
- Neyland pushed her goal streak to four games.
- Blanding and Neyland are tied for the team lead in points (10) and tied for second in goals (eight).
- Curtis has a four-game goal-scoring streak and a team-high nine goals.
- Taranto pushed her point streak to four games. She leads the team with three assists.
