DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team has earned the #6 seed in the Hockey East Tournament and will travel to the #3 seed, Providence College, for a best of three series taking place this Thursday, February 27, Friday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1 at Schneider Arena in Providence, Rhode Island.
The Wildcats and the Friars will extend their storied rivalry to yet another playoff series, after not facing off in the postseason for seven seasons. Both teams have momentum going into the tournament, with Providence sweeping Holy Cross to end the regular season, and UNH defeating BC on Senior Day by a score of 5-1.

PLAYOFF NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire enters the Hockey East playoffs for the eighth straight season.
- The Wildcats are the #6 seed for the second straight season.
- New Hampshire is seeking its first semifinal appearance since the playoff format changed to a best-of-three quarterfinal round, with UNH's last semifinal appearance coming in 2009-10.
- New Hampshire faces Providence in the postseason for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
- The Friars and the Wildcats have faced off in 14 postseason matchups in the programs' histories. The Friars led in the postseason 5-3 in ECAC play, but the two teams are tied in Hockey East play, 3-3.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Wildcats took down Boston College by a score of 5-1 on senior day to close out the regular season with a 12-12-3 conference record.
- Of the Wildcats' five goals, three of them came from seniors: Abby Chapman (Beverly Hills, Mich.) got the scoring started with her first goal of the season three minutes into the game, while fellow seniors Nicole Dunbar (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and Meghara McManus (Milton, Mass.) tallied the third and fourth goals.
- The other two goals came from sophomore Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario) and freshman Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario).
- The 'Cats saw another strong performance in net from redshirt sophomore Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) who stopped 30 of BC's 31 shots on net.
ABOUT PROVIDENCE
- The Friars (Providence, R.I.) come into the postseason with an 18-12-4 overall record, sitting just outside the national top 10 polls.
- Providence went 15-10-2 in the conference and secured the #3 seed with 32 conference points.
- The Friars are 5-3-2 in their last 10 contests; they split a home and home series with Boston College, another with Northeastern, and tied UConn and Maine before sweeping Holy Cross in the final weekend of the regular season.
- Providence won the season series with New Hampshire this season 2-1-0. Both teams won on each other's home ice, with UNH taking game one at Schneider Arena 6-2 back in October.
- The Friars are led by sophomore Sara Hjalmarsson, with a team-high 17 goals and 28 points. Senior defender Whitney Dove follows close behind at 27 points, with a team-high 19 assists.
- Freshman defender Lauren DeBlois was recently named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week; shes currently third on the team in points with 22 (6g, 16a).
