UNH Wins Fourth Straight with 4-3 Victory at #11 Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – With 3:45 left in the third period and with the game tied at 3-3, sophomore forward Angus Crookshank (North Vancouver, British Columbia) scored the game-winning goal as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team defeated No. 11 Providence, 4-3, on Friday night at Schneider Arena. UNH has now won four straight games and improve to 12-8-1 overall (6-5-0 HEA), while the Friars fall to 13-6-5 (7-5-2 HEA). The Wildcats are now 4-1-0 this season versus nationally ranked teams.
Crookshank scored two goals on the night and now has three game-winners this season. Junior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.) posted 27 saves to earn the win in net.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just 54 seconds after the opening face-off, junior Kohei Sato (Nishitokyo, Japan) ripped a shot to the left side of the net past Providence goalie Michael Lackey after senior Liam Blackburn (Prince George, British Columbia) sent a pass from behind the net, giving Sato space to get a shot off and score the game's first goal.
- UNH then went on a five-minute power play but were unable to capitalize.
- At 15:23, sophomore Jackson Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.) led a rush into the offensive zone and fired a shot as Crookshank netted the rebound giving UNH a two-goal lead
- Then at 18:39, junior defenseman Max Gildon (Plano, Texas) put in a rising slapshot from the blue line to increase the lead to 3-0.
- At 9:07 of the second period, Providence capitalized on the man-advantage as Vimal Sukumaran redirected a blue-line slapshot from Max Crozier and gave Providence its first goal of the game.
- At 15:22 and again with a man-advantage, Parker Ford ripped a low-to-high wrister that found the back of the net.
- Sukumaran netted his second goal of the game at 13:38 of the third period when he snuck a quick wrist shot on the short-side bringing the score to 3-3.
- Then with just 3:45 left in the third period, junior Charlie Kelleher (Longmeadow, Mass.) took the puck from a left-side face-off circle and set up Crookshank with a perfect one-timer he put past the glove of Lackey for his 12th goal of the season, giving UNH a 4-3 lead.
- Providence went with an empty net with 57 seconds left but were unable to score the equalizer for the 4-3 final.

- The Wildcats went 0-2 on the power play and Providence went 2-5.
- Robinson made 27 saves, while Lackey tallied 24.
